Still no joy. Won't fire up. I guess tomorrow I will dig into it after mother's day brunch. I will check the basics, is it getting fuel, spark, and air. I was really hoping it would just fire up. Wishful thinking I guess.

Long day... but I managed to get some stuff done on the motor. A123 and GoWesty are in! New harness are sort of in. A lot of the hoses and wires are just laying on top of the motor until I figure out how I want to route everything. Seems like a shame to treat those new harnesses like that, Jeff did a BEAUTIFUL job on all three harnesses, they are beautiful. I am not really into the band clamps for the intake: they are big and clumsy looking. I am rying to figure out a better solution there, maybe just trimming the ends will make them less obnoxious? What do you all recommend? To do list: Weld on the afr bung Mount setrab oil cooler Get 15x6 Fuchs back from restoration Install fan, fan shroud Get 15" tires & install Adjust right trunk hinge to fix uneven gaps Repaint engine grills on engine cover install new P O R S C H E letters on engine cover Get new battery and install Finish MC install and bleed brakes Break in the cam (will break it in with carbs) Get harnesses back from El Jeffe Install alternator Install all the powder coated tins & gaskets Set thermostat cable/flaps Reassemble the ljet Figure out how to adapt and install the GoWesty throttle body Figure out how install A123 Distributor Up next Fill Transmission with fluid Install circuit board and heater blower Install Motor, exhaust Get it running in the car Wire up fan controller for oil cooler Wire up the afr sensor Wire up the cht sender & gauge Install new combo gauge It's coming along. It ain't much... I keep it clean though. Ted, my band clamps are one piece specific for the size of hose. |

Updates! We got updates...
Before doing anything drastic I decided to just yoink the distributor about 40 degrees one direction and see what would happen. Started RIGHT up. So I futzed around a bit and it's closer. I need to go back in and see where its at now. The good news is that it runs. Won't idle, maybe I need to adjust that new idle screw on the throttle body? I think I need to re-route my oil lines, they are too close to the manifold. How have others ran their external oil lines for a rear mounted cooler? b]To do list:[/b] Mount setrab oil cooler Get 15x6 Fuchs back from restoration Install fan, fan shroud Get 15" tires & install Adjust right trunk hinge to fix uneven gaps Repaint engine grills on engine cover install new P O R S C H E letters on engine cover Get new battery and install Finish MC install and bleed brakes Break in the cam (will break it in with carbs) Get harnesses back from El Jeffe Install alternator Install all the powder coated tins & new gaskets Set thermostat cable/flaps Reassemble the ljet Figure out how to adapt and install the GoWesty throttle body Figure out how install A123 Distributor Fill Transmission with fluid Install circuit board and heater blower Install Motor Plumb oil cooler and install sandwich plate Install shift linkage Install exhaust & heat parts Wire up CHT sensor Wire up AFR sensor Get motor running Up next Re-route oil lines Wire up relay/thermostat for oil cooler fan Wire up the AFR sensor controller and synch to my phone. @JamesJ - thank you. I like that look. I think our fan shroud are the same color.
Car runs! Thanks for the ignition curve settings, car sounds great. Need to figure out the idle. I'm super stoked right now. Just letting it cool off a bit then I will tinker some more. ![]() It runs!!! Thats before I started moving the distributor. I need to get an updated photo. Your engine bay is so much more tidy without the heater hoses and charcoal canister. I like how you handled the breather from the airbox back to the filler neck, what pieces are those? I would like to replicate that. I need to tidy things up on my engine before I'll be done. I also want to find a matching long heater hose without that white string, I thought about grabbing a sharpie to fix that. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) So thankful it was an easy fix on the timing. I had it idling at about 800 rpm then I shut it off and now it dies at idle, I'll set the timing better and then futz with that. |

top stuff ted. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
if you want to get all fussy with the heater blower hoses - i will see if i can dig up the info from my files. there is an aluminiumized crinkle hose with a black finish exterior that pretty much matches original hoses. its used for heater ducting in camper vans. i have it on file somewhere. its german manufactured. they make it in very close to the correct diameter to get a good fit for the fan blower outlet. i'll dig around in my files. i got some because my original blower hose split as the all do by this point in time. and its a very very good match for original. |
