This is a good reference for the GT parking brake build that AJ did: https://pbase.com/9146gt/my9146gt_rally_par...ake_fabrication And some of his other GT parking brake research: https://pbase.com/9146gt/the9146gt_rally_parking_brakes That has some good shots. Thanks. I can’t do too many more special wishes on my tub or Jarred will push it out the door but I do want to mount the ebrake on the tunnel. It will make it more useful for the driving I do around my house. I use the 911 ebrake quite often when I test drive customer cars. |

Speaking of finding things… I had no idea what this was until I opened the box. It’s a nos wiper motor. I almost felt guilty about opening a Porsche box that’s been sealed up for 50 years. My tub is not worthy. On the other hand, once I install it behind the air controls, I never want to touch it again.

Rory let me borrow these templates to tuck the edge of the flair up under the car. It’s probably good for an extra inch of tire clearance. I’m about 50/50 on the look but I knew I wouldn’t have the chance after I painted the car. If I didn’t do this, I would have probably trimmed the metal. It is a bit wide on the reproduction flares. I like this approach better than trimming. I was on the fence about what to do about my fenders, either trim or roll. I'm at the point where I'm starting to do the filler work so need to make a decision soon. Did you just put these templates in place and pound the lip of the fenders cold? My car is already in epoxy primer with the raptorliner undercoating.... Also, are these templates available to "rent" when you're done? :-) |

Jarred did the work but I believe he just knocked them into shape with a hammer. |

The plywood forms that Mark shows are clamped inside the fender against the existing
flange. A piece of hardwood was clamped on the outside of the fender flair. This makes the fender the meat in a stable sandwich allowing the hammer work to slowly move the flange against the inside form. When satisfied with a good uniform shape excess metal can be removed to make the inside vertical edge of the flange parallel with the wheel opening. Found pics of the setup. I now see angle iron was added to stabilise the work. The forms are 1/4" plywood and simply a tracing of the wheel opening, one for the rears and one for the fronts. Mark for direction of travel. Very nice. This is getting me motivated to do something with all my 6 conversion parts…..I’ve got an engine, Ben’s oil tank and heat exchangers, engine tin, etc. plus a marathon blue metallic (my favorite color) car to put them in. I just have to get started!

I’m lucky to have found John Bell/JBell. He’s now done dozens of gauges for me but I think these are my favorite. Custom triple gauge to match the real green gauge tach. Tach is from a 67S and John just cleaned it up. Engine will redline at 7200. Speedo is a later electronic gauge converted to a green gauge. I hope I can put 100k on the car but it will never roll over like an earlier gauge since it has the extra digit. It was more than just changing the face to green. John made some custom pieces to fit the extra digit around the chrome ring and moved the odometer reset knob off the face of the gauge and placed it underneath like an early gauge. I believe it was the first one that John did like this and he nailed it. I don’t think the trans is set up with the correct sensor so if not, I’ll follow Clay’s lead and plug in a gps receiver. @JBell Those are nice gauges! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif) |

So a lot of the inspiration and parts accumulation is thanks to the world members. Here’s one example. Someone here shouted out a nos early wire harness on German ebay. Under $900 shipped. I was actually nervous that I wouldn’t be quick enough to buy it but I got lucky. It came in a sealed Porsche bag that smelled like harbor freight when opened. It did eventually air out. Wires feel soft and supple. A great score. TC sold me a complete 914-6 harness that had been cut in half at the firewall. I’ll be using the steering column wires to duplicate the left side ignition, turn signal and wiper wires. I did just purchase four complete 911 wire harnesses from restoration design. Not a small sum of money but they make a great product. If I hadn’t found this one, I would be buying from them. Holy smokes, congrats on that score! Subscribed, look forward to following your progress on this project... and a terrific color choice. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) |

I actually just asked AI to help me get organized just last week for all my parts. And after a four page presentation AI said that it could help me decide to hoard vs sell. How dare you AI calling me a hoarder. I now have a 16 page plan. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clap56.gif)
