Hi there,
My left and right turn signals won’t flash when the headlights or parking lights are on. The turn signal switch works even when the key is off. My turn signal switch is very worn out. The high beams only work occasionally, and the return spring is missing. I am getting a new switch, but I’m wondering if that is the issue, or if there could be a wiring problem causing the turn signals to stop flashing when the headlights are on. Tks. |

QUOTE The turn signal switch works even when the key is off. They come on but do not blink? If so that is a parking light. As far as I know all years did it. |

OK, I'm going to admit that wiring issues are where I have the least experience, but as a general approach you already know that you have a defective switch and from a logical approach to your problem you should start with the known problem, remedy that, and then reassess. An inspection of the wiring as you replace the switch may also reveal hidden problems that you can fix at that time (worn insulation, bad grounds, etc.) If you don't do that you run the risk of going down rabbit holes, complicating things, performing unnecessary work, and increasing the risk of needing to be put on antipsychotic meds (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) .
Good luck! |

Kinda went through a similar situation; turned out there TS had gone bad. Wasn’t easy to figure out until the switch was off and I could test the circuits to the two circuits: turn signals and parking lights.
The grey wire in the center is parking light input; the black wire/green/white wire is the turn signal inputs, On either side of each input are left and right outputs. A good switch will show continuity between the inputs and outputs; so, connect he MM to one of the inputs and a left or right output. Move the turn signal switch and verify continuity; twice for the turn signals and twice for the parking lights. Attached thumbnail(s) |

Did the turnsignals stop working all of a sudden or was some work done on the car? Are the turnsignals front/rear bulbs or LEDs? The only place the parking lights interact with the turnsignals is in the front light housings were 1157 bulbs with turnsignal/running light filaments. If the ground is not good the running light could power the bulb and stop the flasher relay from flashing. Try removing the front turnsignal bulb on one side then try that side turnsignal with the ignition ON and see if the turnsignals work with headlights. |
