I will be in the area ( I'm originally from Elmira) for my HS Reunion

Can't participate in the Gathering but will try to hook up with everyone at Watkins Glen Track as I'm staying at the Seneca Lodge just a stones throw from the Track

That's a good roadtrip for people that don't like twisties but enjoy wine and beer.... There are some roads around Elmira and on the way up to Ithaca that should not be missed if you drive a 914...

And you can't forget the old Watkins Glenn racetrack route they used before the current track was built. There are maps of it around, and its all open road. But is still a fun loop on not heavily travelled roads.

I was able to drive it at some fun speeds last fall during the vintage Grand Prix. The state police blocked it off for us. So much fun. I did a rally with the stonebridge drivers last Saturday and hit it again.

All set, a fantastic place to drive. The vintage race course through the town and out to Watkins Glenn race track. Seneca lodge a lot of car history in that area.

Since I will be staying at the Seneca Lodge, I would be glad to lead people around the old circuit before everyone heads to the track

Do you know why there are a ton of arrows in the wall behind the bar at the Seneca Lodge?

There is no being accepted to Drive the old Course - it's Public Roads.
I posted the map earlier

Not the public road part. The warm up laps they run every year at Watkins on the old track. The road is shut down to only the ones allowed to drive it. That is what I meant. Sorry for the confusion.

It's fun normally but when the state patrol closes it for the vintage racers, it is much more fun, once the really old cars give up. That is what several of us 914ers did last fall.

Tom, I just did a stone bridge driver's thing last weekend and they said they weren't going to allow nonrace cars (as in not participating in races at the wgi?) this year for the closed laps.

Strange? Both my fathers car and mine have been accepted for this upcoming old course drive. Received confirmation about two weeks ago...

I hope so. I suspect communication between the different organizers isn't the best with that group.

I am too busy to do it this year. That and camaros are not too intriguing to me. They also said they were low on Camaro signups so we should tell any friends with vintage camaros to sign up.

As best as I can figure out in the communication. Your car either has to be a race car or it has to be a replica of a real race car. I specifically asked if they wanted a pic of my car again and I was told no. The car has been accepted to run the warmup laps. Sorry you can't make it but we will see you at the Northeast gathering! Oh one more thing I was told. They want the cars to be loud! Race car loud.
