Wondering whos car this is and if it might be my dads old project now completed? Thanks for the compliments guys! I've had the car since 1990 and have done the majority of the work myself. It was a driver when I bought it. I used it as my daily driver for a few years before I took it all apart and built it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

The fun continues with the trunk. The reinforcement panel arrived today and I wasted no time getting it installed:
First, use the old time hand punch and make the plug weld holes, then get it positioned. Nice that that bolt hole can be used to secure the left end. A couple self-tapping screws and it's ready for welding. Attached image(s)

Then just plug weld, metal finish and prime.
Next, I'll break out the spray-able seam sealer gun and see how close I can come to matching the factory look. Attached image(s)

Ben and Griffin (his son) using their technique to remove a fender ahead of welding on the flare. At this point, they've already positioned the flare and tacked it on. Ben shared a tip I'd not used before: leave the factory braces and lower section of the body. Good stuff! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sawzall-smiley.gif)

Awesome informational video! I feel like you need to put a disclaimer on it - "These are professionals, take a grinder to your car at your own risk..." (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Curiosity has gotten the better of me; I am compelled to ask. Your attention to detail is outstanding and your fabrication skills tremendous. Here with the cross base cover or reinforcement plate why did you only do the perimeter welds and nothing in the center? Thanks, |

My excuse is that I didn't remove the original panel so the locations of all the factory weld spots wasn't burned into my brain! I've already gone back and corrected things but didn't update with a new pic so here's one. If you look closely, you can see there are now plug welds on that surface. Attached thumbnail(s) |
