When I removed the harness when pulling the motor I pulled one of the wires out of the small round end that the 2 wires use to push into the back up light switch, so the question is how do I put that wire back into the ball like end ? I tried using a crimper but it is out of shape and cant get pushed into the socket. im sure there is probably a special crimper to use that type of connector ?

Philip Sounds like the terminal has pulled out of the wire correct? If so then strip the wire back and solder it together. Pretty sure these are soldered from the factory. |

Philip Large blob of solder on the tip of the wire, a little shaping and push into place. |

Can someone post a pic of that plug?
I didn’t have anything connected to it when I bought the car. I looked all through my harness when I had the engine out and couldn’t find any plug that was shaped like the one on the transmission. My harness was in sad shape when I bought the car. The fuel injection was gone and dual carbs was the set up. |

How can one confirm that they are present in an existing harness? Is this Gray-brown wires hanging in engine compartment with no plug? Just bullet-style terminal? I didn't drop our engine or transmission. I'm curious what you folks are looking at. Is this the receiver on the transmission that @Chad911sc was referring to? ![]() |

@Dennis - thats the switch. As others have shared, there isnt a 'plug' for this switch, on the ignition harness there will be two wires with un insulated metal ends on them. Thisbis the same harness as the starter wires. If Im not mistaken, the whole thing runs up to the relay board. The two wires should have an elbow shaped rubber boot protecting them. The boot looks the same as the one on the master cylinder safety switch. The two ends simply push snugly into those two holes and the boot slides over the switch.
Not the best picture/angle: Original harness before it was restored: ![]() How the ends should look (without the boot): ![]() |

I think I'm confusing myself a bit between the chassis and engine harness. On the 914-6 at least, my wiring diagrams show: * Gray-Brown "reverse light" on the chassis harness * Gray-Brown "reverse switch" on the engine harness This OP was about reverse switch, which is coming from the engine harness. Since my engine harness is on my test stand, that explains why I couldn't find the wires in the engine bay. |

I feel you, I've pulled out a wire or two over the years. As others have said, solder wire back into the nub.
