Hello Everyone,

Well, I'm finally retired and am able to work on my 914.

I started a post about my turn signals and have time to do it.

I currently have this board.

Symptoms:

Turn signals will turn on solid if the turn signal stalk is up or down on the column.

Also tested and have 12 DC at each corner front and rear turn signals....

Just noticed my Hazard lights do not work.

Do you feel the square/silver relay in this pic would control both turn and hazard lights?

If so, is there a replacement?

The silver square is the high beams, the turn signal relay is round and under the dash.
The turn signal will light up solid if the key is off, actually a german safety feature.

Here is the layout of the under dash fuse panel. The turn signal relay is the large rectangular relay #3. PN: 91461830311 Unless Porsche changed the layout after 71 which others may chime in on.

Doesn't look like your flasher relay is on your relay board. As mentioned the relay itself is usually a square black plastic bodied relay. Here's a couple of pictures of the relay and its connector. The connector has flat spades as the relays have round pins.

The turn signal relay should be up in the dash where you removed the relay board. Usually attached to a brace for the dashboard.
I’m almost certain that the empty relay space closest to the camera is for the door buzzer, I hate that thing.

I seem to remember it is square like the ones shown in the other posts not round, and it might include the door buzzer, if is the later 911 version, (914 version NLA long time ago), which needs an extra ground wire to work properly.

The flasher relay will be a square black plastic body and there are 4 pins which are spades (flat) like empty socket shown in the picture I posted.

Hello Everyone

Well, I stuck my head under the dash and did not find a relay

I pulled the steering wheel off and the backed the turn signal switch far enough to get an ohm meter probe onto these contacts

Green-black-white center
black-white is right
Green-Black is left

Get continuity when actuating the switch.
The wires go to the 12 pin header under the dash then I cannot find where the come out of the header.

Any ideas on how to trace the wires back??

There is a wiring diagram, unfortunately the wire colors are not distinguishable.
The factory manual in physical form has the color diagrams.

All turnsignal wires and flasher relay connect to the hazard switch.

Here's a simplified schematic of the turnsignal wiring in the 914.

Notice the red wire between the hazard switch pin 49 and the flasher relay pin 49. Find that wire and follow it (hopefully) to the flasher relay.

Hello All and thanks for the suggestions and Schematic.

I took your advice and traced the red wire back as suggested.

As a result, I found this flasher relay tucked way up inside.

Attached Image

This harness has these 4 wires to a 4 pin connector.

red-
black, white green
brown
blue with white stripe

the PO then connected only 3 terminals to the relay in the picture.

x
L
P

I accidentally smoked fuse 8 trying to jump the wires around. oops

However, I hooked up a 9olt battery to the relay across Terminals X and L and did hear the relay pulling in slowly.

Should I buy the 4 terminal relay and give that a try?

If so does anyone know now to wire that relay in?

Thanks

Nice troubleshooting. Glad you found the flasher relay. Someone definitely made it on the DAPO list. (DAmn Previous Owner) If you're lucky the wires beyond that flasher relay will be ok and you'll have turnsignals when you replace that relay.

It looks like the black rubber socket is the one for the flasher relay. Get yourself an EP26 and remove those purple wires. I wouldn't try to get an OEM flasher since EP26 works just as well and can be used if you ever decide to put in LED turnsignals.

EP26 out of the box needs to have pin C modified. It's an easy mod to do. I show how to do it on my website. I provide modified EP26 if you just want to buy one ready to go.

Thanks for your reply.

I saw your relay online and will buy one, do you have a wiring schematic with it?

I guessing

Red wire to 49
Black-green-white to 49a
Brown to 31
Blue/White to c2??

Thanks

Unless the PO changed the vehicle wiring, the relay should plug right into that rubber socket. Can you take a picture of the pin side of that socket? Hopefully all that was done was the PO wired in a generic flasher relay and didn't cut or change any vehicle wiring.

There are 2 repairs to the wiring into your fuse box. You should track down the factory wiring diagram that shows the wire colors, interesting adaptation, probably a cost saving calculation.
