I’ve seen two video (skimmed through them) and the bodies seem to be crap. Definitely not ready for prime time. The truck bodies that use a frame might work better, might not. And the welding looks terrible. We can’t buy reproduction parts made in china that work or fit so expecting a chassis for $10k doesn’t sound realistic right now.
Hell, even much of the Dansk sheet metal is poorly made.
I wish there were some shortcut to a rustoration but this isn’t it.

some things they mentioned.
you can't just buy one. min order =5.

5x 10k a pop is still less than some people have put into their cars for rust repair and body work to get an as close to perfect tub as possible.

Getting 5 for that price seems like a bargain, especially if they are galvanized.

and yeah, they most likely will be far from perfect, but then you have to start somewhere. You ever look at an early production 914 tub? Improvements were made over time.

Moving some holes, clearings some areas etc it a LOT easier, less time coinsuming and less expensive then "full" rust repair on a tub. I put the full in quotes because even the best job still has blind areas hiding rust that you cant get to, and being non galvanized start rusting the moment you do anyways.

Id rather not (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stromberg.gif) on a thing but would prefer to get it where we want it to be. thik of the possibilities. Few pople track or even autocross air cooled porsches anymore (at least around here) because they have become to precious. to their owners. Being able to get a body in white for 10k whenever you want might very well change that equation, and I would love to see that.

The fake86 seems to be doing just fine, sure looks decent driving down the road.

well buy 5 and you can give us all a review. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
just kidding.

you could well have a point with potential for a track car.
even the AE86 guys were a little suss on the body flex and strange noises - unsure whether it was as stiff as the real thing given the real thing was floppy too, but since they were going to cage it they thought it was irrelevant. same thing would probably go for a 914. you could stiffen it up with a cage and reinforcement.

joke is there are still plenty of AE86s out there. at least down here.
why would you bother? our climate has been kind to them.
sold like hot cakes back in the day.
we should be selling them to you guys and cut the chinese out of the deal. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
ours even have the added exotic aspect of RHD just like the real japanese thing. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
make anyone the talk of the burnout skid pans.

Rick. It appears that panel is from these guys https://kfvintagejdm.com/

I was told that they are hand made but I see now that their website says “die stamped”. Never used a big one like that but have used several smaller “patch” panels on my Datsun 510. Material is stout, good luck with fit.

Be interested in your feedback.

Yes, that is where I ordered it from. The shipping tracking showed it came from Columbia. I actually received a panel in a crushed box. The panel looks like someone walked on it. I send a text the the woman that took my order showing her the box and the damaged panel. She sent a second panel no questions asked the same day. Very impressed by this. The second panel came double boxed.

I start on the car on Monday. I have a rear body panel to change out also That panel is really nice. I will let you know how it goes. When the car hits the shop I will start measuring the length and placement of things prior to cutting anything off the car.
