I am working on a project and planning to prime a part.
Planning to use rattle can epoxy primer.
Was looking at Eastwood expoxy primer and 2k paint…,( not cheap)
Anyone have specific experience with that or other brand that you could confidently recommend its use.
TIA.

I second that. I used their product a few times now and seams to work well. A single can doesn't seam to go far so make sure you get enough. Follow the instructions too. Do not skip a step or you'll be stripping the parts down and redoing it all over again. I was told just that by the guy at the paint store where I purchased mine.

I know it's different, but Eastwood two-part clear coat (satin) worked well for me.

SprayMax holds a patent on the two part can system for 2k paint.

I could be mistaken here but the Eastwood can looks exactly like a SprayMax can, just has an Eastwood label. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Spray max is about $6-10 cheaper per can depending on where you get SprayMax from and in what quantity. Nothing against Eastwood but I suspect they are basically having SprayMax do a private label for them.

A third for SpayMax. You can also get custom colors loaded if needed. Great for smaller touch ups. I can get colors loaded at LKQ Finishmasters locally.

Luke’s comment about coverage is almost understated. Bought two cans needed 4. Although in fairness first can application was less than ideal due to my lack of practice.
Oh well live and learn.

I recently used the Car-Rep 2k DTM primer and also their high build primer. Had excellent results with both.

They have proprietary technology where the paint does not catalyze until it is sprayed. The beauty of this is it does not catalyze in the can so there is no “pot life”. You can use a partial can and reuse the rest anytime later. Have to be careful to thoroughly clean the nozzle after use though. I shoot brake clean through the nozzle and that works.

Sprays extremely well. The fill primer comes in many colors. Not a huge amount of paint in the can so as above, get more than you think.

It took two cans when I sprayed my dash frame so yes it doesn't go too far. I also used it before I closed up my pass long and door post. Afterwards I sprayed the Eastwood internal frame coating paint over it as well. There's an auto paint supply store not too far from me so I drop in and grab cans as I need them. It's not cheap but way easier then to get the spray gun out and setup for a small job.

BTW….That wasn’t criticism but rather emphasis…..My problem is no local source so I need to order from Amazon. …..and no compressor so stuck with rattle can. Once I got distance from surface, I got decent coverage.
I appreciate the guidance.

Wow, that could be very convenient - thanks for the heads up, think I'll try some next time I need to prime small areas.

I want to add a comment ……or caution.
This product is ok but information as to how you use it is hardly adequate.
Thanks to Luke’s comments, I became concerned regarding the mixing.
Unfortunately the mixing was not as needed so I have a costly do over.
The action to release catalyst is a little tricky …….it requires a fair amount of force to execute.
Got more info online search than the pathetic mfg info on can.

Adding one piece of information……I needed more so decided to buy from Eastwood. As suspected, it appears to be private labeled for them by German mfg of Spraymax.
Major difference is there are more explicit instructions that should help as the German instructions are weak at best!

Pretty cool that you can only use as much as need while retaining shelf life:

Wise 2K Technology: Traditional 2K spray cans feature a puncture button on the bottom that mixes the hardener and resin, giving you a "pot life" of only a few hours before the remaining paint hardens inside the can. The patented technology used by Car-Rep keeps the resin and hardener separated in a single chamber. The chemical reaction only triggers once the product passes through the spray nozzle and contacts atmospheric moisture, providing an unlimited pot life so you can reuse the can until it is completely empty.

I've used SprayMax...a really good product for off the self vs a full spray set up...

I’m not quite sure what’s going on - I never found it to be a problem though it does take a decent amount of force to pierce the catalyst.

Keep the clear cap on top. Remove red button. Install on bottom.

Position can upside down on the clear cap such that you can use some body weight and straight arms to get some weight onto the red button if need be.

Post video or pics of what you’re doing if this doesn’t solve it for you.
