Blue tint on filler of windshield washer bottle Options

So on my windshield washer bottle the neck has a blue tint to it. All of my cars which are all 74 LE cars have a blue tint to the neck. I got a deduction at lake placid for having this blue tint. Was this an original feature to these cars or to later cars in general?

It seems that they were made in colors. I have seen red and green also.

I don't know why they would dock you for a part that is replaced occasionally due to damage or wear. My other thought is what NARP74 stated that the neck may have been dyed from years of standard blue washer fluid use.

jan 25 1974 build - 1.8.
basically one of the last of the run of 1.8s from late oct 73 to end of jan 74 and right before the LEs start coming off the line in feb and they start building 2.0s again.

blue screw collar.

car is orig, unrestored. i am second owner since 1989. i have never changed the bottle and i am 99.9% sure the original owner i bought if off did not.

have no idea when they might have changed the bottles if they did change them during the production years of the 914, or whether its 74 only or whether its a batch of bottles, but i am no surprised. just one more of the myriad minutia of changes we discovered with 1.8 L jet research. a whole heap of changes come in with the 1.8s from late oct 73 to end of jan 74 and no one has ever worked it out until recentlu because folks were only interested in 2.0s and never took 1.8s seriously. the blue collars might be one of those changes. a quick way to find out would be to examine an early 74 2.0 from aug73 to end of oct 73 build period.



EDIT - and no its not dyed from washer fluid. its blue plastic. the bottle is two part construction.

easy to do.
these are all trustworthy examples in my view. good to very good to excellent condition original unrestored cars. all 1.8s

i have more examples all with blue bottles, but above are ones i trust without thinking too much about it.

here is a 11/74 build. hard to tell for sure.



doesn't look blue. but could just be aged. i'd have to dig further but maybe its a change that came in at some point in that late 1973 period.
i do have another example of a very very very early 1.8 off the line on file in very original condition. but unfortunately the photos did not include a clear view of the bottle. i think i might go exploring BAT for examples of the 74 2.0L cars built from aug to late oct 73 just to see what they have. could well be this change happens just as the 1.8s start getting built. the 1.8s from dec 73 on sure do look like they have the blue bottles right through to june 74 build. and if so, the 2.0L cars inclusive of the LEs would have been the same.

I do believe that it was a new younger beginner judge. One of the main reasons to show my cars is to educate the judges and the public about the LE cars. And winning of course. Many of these judges do not know much about these cars and they will tell you that. In hind site maybe I should ask if I can to see the score sheets. At Parade concourse they send out the sheets two weeks after. I am not bitter at all but I will reach out so it will not happen to anyone else or myself in the future.

yeah, well that might accord with that 11/73 i have on file that looks like it was plain vanilla as well. old heinrich at the karmann factory might have found a bin of left over bottles up the back of the factory behind the beer bottles.
