It might sound like a bit of a cop out at first but what if everyone chooses their own challenge and works to complete it. The idea of everyone “winning” is a good one when it comes to getting more 914’s back on the road. The more people participating, the more everyone can help the challengers move towards their goals.

It’s near impossible to do any kind or big restoration in a year or less.

I'm in too...the goal is having it on the road summer of 27 that will be 5 years of complete restoration.

I think that the real win for anyone participating is that it helps make progress and make better connections with the community. Don't get me wrong, I don't think any of us grew up getting participation trophies (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) and expecting something unearned, but I think everyone should get the support of each other to get (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stromberg.gif) Done.
To that end, I think that there can be lots of categories as long as we have a few people in each one to "Compete" with if you are motivated that way.
Chris said he was "not eligible" to participate last time (because he is a pro?) I don't think that should matter but it may make it harder for you to win Most Improved.

I put a note in the newsletter today for 9/14 weekend to invite more people to help with rule ideas, but I think we have a pretty good start on them so far.

Last time, we had to post at least once a month with our progress. That was part of the fun for everyone else watching. That was before everyone was on social media (which is easier to post to), but we want people coming and participating in the 914World community. It is easier for people to go back through the build thread and see your starting condition of the car, what your goal is by 9/14/27, and we can rig up something to make voting easy. I believe the way that it works for Frances with the Sema build is that when it gets down to the final 3, they have to be the ones to determine who won. Don't know if that could work here, but who isn't going to vote for her (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving-girl.gif)

I am in too...my 914 has been off the road for several years...bitten by the allure of a six conversion...any additional motivation would be greatly appreciated.

I'd be interested too but I already got a jump start on my 73 project. Going to convert it to a 6. It's all stripped down and needs chassis repairs. Once the work is done, strip to bare metal, epoxy, then paint. All of the work is to be completed in house.

Guess I would need to see the rules then decide.

Actually it was the lack of rust & paint. With the HP increase and likely needing fatter rear tires I put that at the bottom of the list, if ever. My car could use a full strip, rustproofing, and a full paint job. That's a lot of down time I have no interest in right now.

Thoughts:
1. Goal is getting the car driving, and doing stuff with it.
2. I'm thinking every month the top 5, mostly based on time committed, get equal value gift certificates. Don't want peeps to game the system. Being every month should split up the winners as weather and other life events happen. Also rewards 'smaller' projects vs full year restorations.
3. Time doesn't have to be direct productivity, but can include learning to weld or other new skill - that would make current skill set(s) less of an advantage.
4. Instead of a 'grand' prize, we do WCR style with multiple awards.

Awards ideas:
1. most miles (trailering at 50% value)
2. most new skills acquired
3. most skills needed
4. most build hours
4. most seat time
6. most events attended (local car shows count)
7. most "glow up" -> ugly to pretty
8. People's choice
9. most want to own
10. most want to 'test drive'
11. best stock
12. best modded
13. most interesting thread
14. most difficult build

I think you are going to need a handful of 'judges' that read all the threads and assign scores every month. I don't think the rest of us are going to have time to keep up with dozens of build threads til the final voting.

Monthly awards <$100
Annual awards >$100 plus trophy/plaque/badge
tshirts for everyone that puts in a decent number of hours.

I love the idea of the skills. I have been thinking about that a lot lately. As an old scoutmaster and Frances dad being a current scout leader, we were talking about all of the skills that she learned on her build and how much it was like her Eagle Scout Project in so many ways. So for her headliners I am going to work on some embroidered patches and have that be like her merit badge sash. Mine's closing in on seeing the sun a little more...I'd just be happy to be able to clean my garage again. This time, I think my goals are within reach sometime soon. Don't get me wrong...I like riding and getting to know people, but I wanna hotrod around the roads holding my own wheel! I'm in.
