Welp. We have developments. I know I said I'm just going to leave well-enough alone, but you know how that goes. Short story - took the scope and looked at the fan. I don't think that's supposed to be there. It's that shop paper towel stuff - like what comes off a roll in a box - heavier than kitchen paper towels. I have two boxes sitting over there so I know it's self-inflicted. Got it out with a bent hanger and shop vac - but I think I have a bit more cleaning to do in there? With things in place, what's the best way? I'm thinking a very bendable/flexible bottle brush in the front and then maybe thru the timing access hole on top - just turn it over a few times. I truly wonder how long it's been in there. I'll say it: it's the basics, folks. I'm just slow. The other "fancy" fixes weren't working but I just kept going down the hard path - which eventually brought me back to the basic path: checking under the tins and in the fan. I'll take it out for a spin today - low 90's and high humidity so it's pretty much worst-case environment. I'll report back but I feel kinda stupid right now - but also encouraged. (PS: what's the blue markings?) It sort of looks like a blue ink stamp . |

guys. i can't believe what a difference it has made. I feel really stupid but really happy. I had a GREAT drive today through the backroads of southeastern indiana and had a blast. Oil and CHT's were so in-check it made me giggle every time I glanced at them. Ridiculous.
Brakes are up next.... |

Gotta love it when a major problem has such a simple (and free) fix! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) |
