Engine bay pic. It has a Motorcraft / Holley 2 bbl carb kit on it, nice cast aluminum valve covers vented to a K&N breather, a 009(?) centrifugal advance dizzy, oil temp and pressure senders, external oil cooler with deleted stock cooler and remote filter, what's left of the cruise control components, stock heater boxes with aftermarket glass pack exhaust, etc. Still has a functioning bellows thermostat, which seems kind of odd given the lack of surrounding tin and the oil cooling mods.

I'm guessing that the engine might have a few mods / upgrades given all the extras on it.

This VW also has an R-12 AC system using a (2 piston?) compressor that I don't think I've ever seen before. Anybody know anything about this compressor?

I read Aztec (Aztek) and kit car and I really didn’t want to like it, but it does look kind of cool…

Design has great symmetry, shades of Pina Farina, nice execution - reminiscent of the Bricklan (SP)

Much better than this,,,,,,or is it........??

What a score. It has a vibe that fits with a 914 World, if there ever was such a place.

The history of Aztec 7's is pretty fascinating. Its styling was inspired by the 1968 Alfa Romeo Carabo concept car designed by Marcello Gandini while at Bertone. Gandini was involved with all sorts of ground breaking cars like the Miura, Countach, Diablo, Pantera, Stratos, etc. The Carabo also inspired the Vector W2 and W8.

Aztec 7 production began in the early 70's, making it one of the first "production-ish" "wedge" cars, and ended around 1981. Only about 400 were produced and estimates are that only 200 were actually built. It uses the same windshield as a Lamborghini Miura.

Per Wikipedia " ...The Alfa Romeo Carabo is a concept car first shown at the 1968 Paris Motor Show.[1] It was designed by Marcello Gandini, working for the Bertone design studio.[2] The Carabo name is derived from the Carabidae beetles, as evoked by the car's iridescent green and orange coloring.[3]

The Carabo was created by Bertone in just 10 weeks and featured fiberglass bodywork.[4] It was never intended for production but was fully functional and showcased unique features such as its scissor doors, being the first known vehicle to feature them. The Carabo was one of the first "wedge" shaped designs by Gandini, who would later go on to design cars such as the Lamborghini Countach, and helped set the trend of wedge shaped supercars and concept cars in the 1970s."
