Great day at Jamie"s and Parts Obsolete. Cruising north on I-5 following Craig Laughlin and Kevin Powers. Lots of traffic. I get boxed in and they get ahead of me but still in sight. Hear a noise, hear it again, generator light ignites.......fan belt. Forgot cell phone at home....gotta catch the guys....boxed in ....oil temp and cyl. temp beginning to climb........better stop....in luck, I can see the Wilsonville rest stop. Pay phone, call Craig's cell...."HELP....come back and get me". "On my way" he says. Ten minutes later he pulls in to the rest stop and hands me his cell phone. I say "what for?" He says "call your wife, I just broke my fan belt!". I say you're shi..en me, he says "no". I call. Wife arrives at rest stop 30 minutes later, laughing loudly, brings camera.......

Wife takes wayward travelers (beltless) to my garage. Three belts on hand, two different sizes. Which is correct? I check factory manual...........

Craig checks Haynes (support vehicle in background, wife still playing CB deMille). No spec found, take all three, tools , and head for rest stop.

And now who's supervising? Installed 9.5x965. Wonder if Kevin is somewhere on I-5 without a belt? I have one left, size unknown.

Both cars safely in garage. Wife making noises about expensive restaurant, trying not to hear.

Ah Man that sucks! At least it was close to home. By the way it was really great to get to meet everyone at the meet today, I had a realy great time today just getting to talk with everyone and see some beautiful cars. Jim - I still can't get over how original that car is! It's really just a beauty. Hopefully someone will post pic's of the meet soon. Mine are crap.

guys, made it home without so much as hiccup. cleared the 1k mile mark on the reassembly, i think i'm ok. but this am will check mine with a mirror (food for thought). what is the deal with getting to i-5? that route through salem is a nightmare. craig drives too fast. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif). poor dave hunt is losing time in his car to his wife (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) . i came out of emory's and asked him where his car was. "betsy and sara took it". his son gerry says "can i ride with you". lonesome dave in the subaru 4 dr (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) . what with our alias's here i wonder who the real faces are. some name tags should have had our "handles" on them. thanks to jamie for a good job. oh by the way, if your wife should ask you if you think you should take the top with you listen to her.

I made it home at about midnight. My "shortcut" through Port Angeles might be the culprit. From Port Angeles to Seattle we had an unusual caravan: my wife in her Volvo turbo wagen, me in the 914, and my cousin on his Harley fatboy.
Had a great time meeting everyone, and seeing all the nice 914s. This the first time I've driven a 914 for an extended period of time. I had a blast! A big thanks to Jamie for putting this together. I hope I can stay for the whole thing next year. And thanks to Zach for letting me put so many miles on his nasty little 914! John www.ghiaspecialties.com |
