There is a "quick ratio" steering box available for early Porsches that was used for off road racing and rallies but those are really rare!

parts book says they're alla same.
however - many 911's also use the exact same rack (same 914 part number and everything - Porsche liked the 914 dsign so much they used it in subsequent cars. it's possible someone has retrofitted an early 911 rack into your car. looks like the change occurred right around '71-'72 for 911. does your mystery rack have a part or casting number ? |

Yes I lll clean it an post but the most obvious differance is that on the most of the racks Ive seek there is a gear cover on the side of the rack, this one has two covers. One in the normal location and one at the bottem of the vertical section of the casting. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif)

You got a ZF! That's a limited-slip steering rack, very rare indeed.
Ok, I have no idea what it is, but you're right, it does look differn't. |
