Okay, I know y'all've (I spent 3 years in the south...that's a word (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif) ) heard me complain about the 4-cylinder engine, dropping it and installing it. What a beyatch! So to those who've had the pleasure of working with the 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder versions, which is easier to drop/install? I would think a -4 would have to be easier. Its smaller and no oil tank to0 mess with.

Your kidding right.

I actually put a four cylinder in once without a jack, slid it onto my chest and bench pressed it with my arms and knees held it long enough to get motor mount bar nuts started. I installed the transmission separately.

My 6 has CIS so it has to be wrestled in a bit and always needs some sort of heavy equipment lift to do the job.

Here is pics of the engine drop on my -6. I had to remove the front tires and drop the nose on the ground. Then then raise the back as high as I could get it with 2 floor jack on 4x4's.

As far as which is easier? Which ever one was not in my car (which incidentally I just got out today, and rolled around back for a "make-over"). Both friggin' motor mount bolts heads snapped off, mount "fused" to the bolts by rust....heated, beat, cussed, beat some more, cussed alot more, tried to knock up with an air-hammer, "F" NO, didn't budge!! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/headbang.gif) ...etc, ended up completely drilling out both motor mount bolts.......took friggin' 4 hours just for the bolts! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/dry.gif) .....other than that, went pretty smooth. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif)

I pull the carbs.

And the 4 is a boatload easier than the 6.

Most sixes require some TLC at the side sheet metal tin, while travelling up towards the trailing arm bolts. I usually tip the engine slightly on the jack, clearing one side at a time while raising (or lowering the car to engine) it in place.

Fours are in quicker.
