> How do I keep from getting ripped-off?, Buying parts through the classifieds.

I've found some wheels that may be in good shape and that I may like to buy but I spoke to the guy on the phone and he sounds like a young kid (teenager). I normally would pay using PayPal but since I have a Canadian PayPal account I don't get any buyer protection services from PayPal. How could I buy these wheels without getting ripped-off? I got ripped-off on ebay a month ago and these wheels are much more expensive than the ebay item.

Thanks,
Alfred

demand pictures. good ones, as close as possible of each one, not a shot of all four from 15 ft. if they are said to be oem's get a picture of the stamp on the back. look in the classifieds here or post a want to buy. i think you can buy here with confidense. what kind are they? shipping to canada takes forever from the states. be patient.

Thanks, I've done all that. If I send him the money and he turns out to be a crook and doesn't ship, then I can just kiss my money goodbye.

you can do an escrow thing.

There are companies that handle it, but I've never used one.
You pay the escrow company, he sends you the wheels, when wheels arrive, they send money.
That may not be the exact way it works, but its something like that!

Where are the wheels located? Maybe someone in the club can help out?

Send the money by mail, use a postal order. That way if the deal goes sour, it's a federal fraud case. If the FBI dosen't get him the postal police will.

Chris, thanks for the offer ... Kevin thanks for the tip. If the guy in Chilliwack only had Fuchs .... Oh well, I'm going back to plan A which is to pay for rust repair first.

The opposite side looks like new and my rockers, and most of the rest of the car, are completely solid. D@mn 914's should have come from the factory with Optimas!
