I would, but she has a Dino wheel. I have the engine lid script though!

I got the newest edition of Excellence tonight, so hopefully the claim adjuster will look at that and take it into consideration.

Jim, maybe you could send a PM to "Rick918S"?.. the Alien guy. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif)

I don't know much about dealing with claims adjusters. I know what I paid for my 914 (bill of sale), and I know the value stated on the WA Registration form (quite a bit higher), and I know the range of Blue/Gold-book values, and all of these values differ quite a bit. The Excellence magazine idea sounds very promising.

Good luck, and hang in there! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/cool.gif)

Jim

I'm sorry to see about your car. The times I saw it, I thought it looked really nice and i know you put some effort into it. I'm sure glad you are OK. I hope the guy who hit you is OK too, but feeling bad.

Be prepared when you deal with insurance adjusters. Know what you want and have references to back it up. That excellence article is a good place to start. Anything on paper will help but, heresay like the guys on the board said "It's worth $____" won't help. Your age will work against you.

When I was 25 I got a new 74 Super Beetle. I had it 6 weeks and a guy ran a stop sign and wasted the left front including the strut. I was in dental school and didn't have much extra time. It ended up in the body shop and after 2 weeks I called to see what the hang up was. The shop owner said he could release it cause it needed a front end alignment and wasn't safe and the ASSHOLE adjuster wouldn't OK it. So I called the guy and he said the car was fine. They paid to replace the strut but wouldn't pay to align it. Neither guy would budge so I called the insurance commissioner. They straightened it out.

Even if he seems like a nice guy, the adjuster will not be on your side.

Just went to look at a '73 with a 1.8L in it last night. REALLY clean car. Better condition than mine was. It is silver and has Rivi's on it. 70K on the motor and 118K on the car. Hell hole has some rust though, but the suspension looks good as do the longs. As it sits, the guy wants $3600, but for $4000 he will put in a new clutch. Owner works at a Porsche/VW shop in Seattle and is second owner. Worked on the car prior to buying it. CLEAN interior and it seems like the shift is as clean as the car. He put the D-jet FI on the motor, so I would probably rip it off and install my perfect L-jet. Battery tray is gone, but the orig. mount location is still good. Battery is in the trunk, which has no rust. Car has less rust than mine, and it is a WA car. All locks work GREAT, doors close perfect, windows dont squeal, top seals are great, no cracks in dash, etc.. Opinions?????

Oh I will be checkin for receipts for that stuff. He will also be sourcing the engine compartment seal(s). He is holdin the car for me until I have more info from the insurance company. The fuchin adjuster wouldnt even begin to look at the value that Excellence has. Wouldnt even take the copy that I made for him! I figure I am gonna get low-balled hardcore. But if I have to, I will fight tooth and nail with these guys to get my cars value. I may need some "on-line for sale ads" from about the same kind of condition cars guys. If the adjuster is rejecting the values in Excellence,
what is the source he is using for your 914's value?

The adjuster will eventually be under pressure to close this claim, and he's hoping you take the quick money. He's trying to wait you out. Don't settle, keep coming at him with consistent values, be cool.

If you're a member of PCA, you can call or email the home office in VA and see if they have some data they can send you on 914 values.

About ten years ago, I had my 944S totalled by a 16 year old. His dad convenced the adjuster it was my fault before I could get to him. However, after seeing the police report which included eye witness statements, the adjuster then got really nice. He had tried to low-ball me at first but after I got a copy of the police report, photos of the accident scene, and some documentation from PCA, I got more than I had paid for the car about 12 mos. before.

Good luck!

I will definetly have to hit up PCA regardless. Never thought of that. Luckily the other driver admitted fault from the get go, so there is no dispute there. I dont even think the adjuster will try to put any of the blame on me.

Any one have any good links to cars for sale online that I might have missed? I dont really know all the good sources that are out there. I know that Craig over at the camp might have some insight there, but that is all I really have to go on for a good source.
