After not using my 914-6 for three weeks, I took it out and notice smoke from the right rear brakes. After letting it cool, I took it out for 1 mile, then used a infra red thermometer to measure temperatures. Right rear brake pad is dragging.
I adjusted the venting clearance screw but it doesn't unlock the pad. How do I unstick them? I need help. If I can't fix this, the track event I have been looking foward to all year is gone. |

My E-bake cable stuck on mine, so I un-hooked the offending caliper. Might help....??

I would start by flushing the brake fluid, if it hasn't been changed lately.
Then, pull one pad. Insert a thinner block of wood, and have an assistant apply push the brake pedal. See if the cylinder is moving. If it moves and retracts, try the other side. try to pry the cylinder back into the caliper. Use the block of wood - don't use a screwdriver to pry with, because you might damage the cylinder or rubber that protects it. Seriously consider a caliper rebuild in your future. Big thing: don't let the cylinder get too far out of the caliper. If it has the room to come free (i.e. the pads missing, but nothing there to stop the movement), the caliper WILL pop itself out, and damage the mechanism inside the piston. AA has rear /6 rebuild kits, and so does GPR. -Rusty (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smoke.gif) |
