nearing the end of my 914 reassembly i came upon the the throttle cable. i cant seem to find a way to connect it to the throttle lever. Went through the Haynes and nadda. Could someone post a picture of their throttle lever connected to the throttle cable? Thanks in advance (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif)

No pic, but I'll try to describe the attachment.
There's a "barrel nut" that the end of the cable slides into. A bolt threads into the nut, and pinches the solid end of the cable. The barrel nut itself rides in the holes in the end of the bellcrank on the throttle valve--it goes through both of the holes, and the gap in the middle is where the cable goes. I hope this makes sense; if not then hopefully someone will get a picture up. --DD |

Daniel......... I probably have one laying around.....if you look at your heater connection (cables to the flapper boxes and how they are attached to the flapper box), the "barrel nut" is the same.

Believe it or not, you can find barrel nuts that will work at Kragen. It comes in a "variety pack" of different sizes. It's in the section with the oddball hardware. I replaced a heater flap cable barrel nut with one of these. I think I had to drill the hole to make it a little larger to fit the cable end through it.

It is a pretty straight forward connection if you look at the end of the throttle cable and where it attaches to the throttle body. Stick the end in the hole and tighten down the bolt - I believe it is an 8mm.
Be sure to get it right (not too much tension) or the motor may rev up really high when you start it up for the first time. Make sure the valve is closed and there is a *little* slack on the cable. Also don't forget to attach it at the point on top of the motor, behind the trottle body. |

here are those two wires running from the fuel pump...i know one of them is negative, but the positive doesnt have a female connector on it.

and lastly there are these two red wires that run through the center tunnel from the front. where do these go? and one last oddball question...i cant seem to find the positive battery terminal.

Those red wires look kinda like the ones that supply power to most of the car. They'd go on the (+) battery terminal--or rather, on the bolt on the terminal clamp.
You can't find the (+) terminal on the battery? Umm, that's a bit messed up! Aren't there a couple of metal posts sticking up out of the top of the thing? One should have a "+" by it, the other a "-". The two wires from the fuel pump should feed into the main wiring harness. From there, the brown one goes to the multiple ground point under the relay board (unless your car is a 75+, in which case I think the ground is up front), and the black/red (black with red stripe, the power wire) should go to the relay board, where one of the relays controls if it gets power or not. Looks like your car has been hacked on, though. Carb conversion? --DD |

im pretty close to getting it back on the road again...my goal is to have it back on the road before the DnG swapmeet (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/boldblue.gif) ....well this all started w/ a bad head on the FI 1.8 the car came w/...after some searching i found a complete FI 2L up north...pretty much everything is hooked up...the last remaining tid bits are these few wires and the missing positive cable (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/dry.gif) |

The "positive cable" is actually several cables hooked together. There's the GREAT BIG FAT cable from the (+) battery terminal directly to the starter, and there are what look like those two red wires that you show in the picture. The two red wires hook on to the bolt through the clamp that goes on the (+) battery terminal. Or at least if the wires are stock, that's what they should be doing... In my car, I bought a "universal" cable that has a ring terminal on one end (for the starter) and the other end is bare. I bought a replacement terminal clamp for the other end--the type that is held onto the cable by using two bolts to clamp a piece of metal against the rest of the clamp. The two red wires with ring terminals went under one of those bolts.

i took a look at my buddies 914 (for sale) and saw the direct line from the battery to the starter. Connected that and the red wires to the positive terminal. But now im only getting power to certain areas of the car. It could be the new (used) ignition cylinder i installed earlier (never ran the car w/ this cylinder). I'll swap it w/ the old one after work. Thanks for the help dave and the rest on the forum (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif)
