Bruce Canepa was at the Porscheplatz on Saturday and he was talking generally about his 917-10 spyder(in the paddock) and his 935(in the paddock) and then he talked at length about the 959s he is rehabing and bringing up to date with upgrades....he has something like 25 or 30 at his shop in Santa Cruz and apparently is having an "open garage" this coming weekend, Saturday I think. I'm sure his web site will have info on the event. If you can make it there will be wonderful sights to see.... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/boldblue.gif)

This reminds me when I saw the reported stolen 959 on the streets of San Francisco in the 80's. The silver 959 jumped out of nowhere from the #1 lane on Geary to lane #3, made a hard right turn on Divisadero. I gave chase in my modified Jetta GLI because I couldn't believe what I was seeing. He then made a hard left going uphill and dropped me like a bad habit.
Now it's hard to believe that there are about 30 of them just over the hill from me. I just might check them out. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) |

There was a beautiful red 959 at last year's Mid America Porsche fest. It was behind stantions, but I just had to touch it, so I could say..."I touched one"! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)
Also touched the Carrera GT (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif) |

There was a guy at the PCA Parade in Florida in '03 that had a red street legal 959. He drove it up from Naples Sunday morning. I talked to him as he was drying it off in the afternoon. It was funny to watch people walk around the car. Some would say "Great looking conversion, body looks very good."
He would quitely say, "It's real." (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif) I asked him if he gets that a lot and he said, "All the time, but I thought it would be different here...." (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif) |

A few years ago I stopped at a local (RM Restorations Ypsilanti, mi) showroom and they had a Red 959 there. It had a big hole in the roof near the driver's door. They told me the car got damaged when unloading from the shipyard loading docks. Something dropped on it. They were going to fix it at their RM Restoration shop. The body was fiberglass and with a lot of splinters sticking out. Sure looked tacky. I thought the body was made of steel, but with a short run fiberglass makes sense. I was able to sit in the car & made engine noises pretending to go racing. Didn't have my camera. I was not impressed with the overall fit & finish. I mean FG body on such an expensive car!!

If I recall correctly, it was all carbon fiber, which was one of the reasons the car cost so much.... |

It's my understanding that all 959's in the US are for "Show and Display" only with limited mileage per year on public roads. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif)

So who check this? Does a guy from the FBI come to your house and check your odometer once a year? Maybe you just send in a form and you get it notorized. Anyone know? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif) Paul |

That was a Kevlar rooftop you saw, not FG or CF.
959 is not that fun to drive, oddly enough. Kinda floaty and not as fast as you might think. At least in feel terms. Now, 959S with the non-adjustable suspension is f-amazing!!!! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/mueba.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/monkeydance.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/mueba.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/monkeydance.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/mueba.gif) And Canepa's motor, at least in terms of power, delivery, and feel, is phenomenal. pete |

I'd take a 959 over a CGT, if they was sitting in front of me, and I had the choice.
Why you ask? The 959 is a race car. Its been there and won. The CGT, doesn't appear that its ever going to get a chance to race. |

His new shop in Scotts Valley is across the street from my wife's office. And they run 959's up highway one close to my house. I see them all the time.
