The Porsche spyder RS finished first in the P2 class, but finished 5th overall. Not second.

1st was the zytek car, 2nd went to audi R8, 3rd was a dyson lola, 4th to the other Audi R8, and 5th to Massen and Luhr in the Porsche RS.

The Penske Porsche surprisingly pitted for fuel with 3 minutes left in the race. It has been speculated that they didn't really need fuel.
A couple of reasons might be that they didn't want to show up the P1 cars and get the rules changed to slow them down (as has happened many times in the past), or that Penske was sandbagging and didn't want the competition to know how good of fuel mileage they were actually getting.
They had no chance of catching the 1st place overall P1 Zytek car and there was no way that the second place car in P2 could catch them so pitting didn't hurt them at all in class.
It like a chess match with lots O'politics thrown in.
Next year the Porsche RS spyder will kick ass and take names, as long as they don't get penalized for being too fast. Deja Vu.

It certainly looked to me, throughout most of the race that the Porsche was just cruising along behind the P1 cars - didn't want to go by, but certainly no slower...

I expect it will be a LOT faster next year (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/idea.gif)
