OK, did 1600+ plus miles in 3 days.
Parked it for a day. Drive it to work this morning to show it off, and I get a "Whirling" sound from the odometer/speedometer gauge???? No sound up to 30mph, then it increases in intensity with speed and the dial starts to jump around. Stopped for gas and now the sounds gone??? I'm assuming that the sound will reappear on the way home. Any ideas? Thanks, Bryce Ohio |

Also, might be related....
The speedometer reads 8-9mph faster than actual? 1 fix for both? Thanks again, Bryce |

Your speedo drive cable is dying.

mine does the exact same thing. I have a brand new cable too! the last one broke, (also brand new)
I know the cable weather boots are installed wrong, I wonder if the cable inside the sheath is wrong too? (maybe it's wound 'backwards' so it kinda unwinds as it turns?) mine is a tail shifter.. not sure that matters but.... -bob |

Never had a P-car speedo/odo apart, but in a VW, there is a stupid little plastic gear in there that goes. Replaced with a brass gear a few years ago, and I expect it to work until long after my demise.
