Here's what 2.4 liters of aluminum fury looks like.

Of course it also happens to look nearly exactly like 2 liters of regular old Porsche no-so-much-fury.

Also remarkably a lot like 1.7 liters of jeez-I-wish-I-had-some-fury.

I'm told it also looks very similar to an aluminum hand-grenade.

We'll know soon enough!

The car and motor have been formally introduced. The car seems receptive.

And 20 minutes later, we have docking!

If, some time next week, you happen to hear a loud explosion on the west coast and CNN reports a chunk of San Diego has been blown to Catalina, things didn't work out as well as I had hoped.

I'll keep y'all updated.

Why did you take the tin off to install the engine?

I've tried it both ways in the past.

The rear tin has to go in with the motor, but the front and side pieces I found to go in easier afterwards. When trying to align the motor and mounts, the tin can hang up and be a total PITA. Sure, putting it in afterwards requires some finagling, but I found it to be less frustrating.

Just my $.02

Things to consider. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/idea.gif)
The conventional wisdom is to stick the whole thing in as a unit, trans and all, but I have considered the idea of something like your plan in the past. I agree 100% that the tin can really create alignment hang ups on ocassion as the engine raises into the compartment. I have never removed any of the tin because I don't usually have time to re-invent the wheel, so to speak, when doing my 914 stuff. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smash.gif)

1.7 needs to come out of the Silver Streak so I can stick in the 2.0 I've got sitting here. I think I may try your method then. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beerchug.gif)

great license plate...

Some day I'll actually get my car to MY garage and get to start digging into it. Anyone in SoCal have a car trailer handy? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif)
