ANSWER:
TRIED THE "DOUBLE CLUTCH" METHOD DESCRIBED BELOW.....NO-GO. TRIED THE "TALLER GEAR FIRST" METHOD.....PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! THANKS AGAIN! ORIGINAL QUESTION: My '73 clutch is tight and great. But, every 4th or 5th time that I put it in 1st, I get some clashing. I read that this car is "sensitive" to proper clutch "setting(?)" and that I should have about 1/2" of play when I pull the clutch up and if I don't 1st and reverse will clash. The clutch is dead on at 1/2" of "play". Is there a "trick" to getting it into 1st? Do I need to adjust something? Or will I always sound like a retard driving this thing? Thanks, Bryce |

try the double clutch method. push in, let out, push in and shift. or try to slip it into a taller gear first, like fourth to stop the tranny from moving then back to first. you could have an issue with the first/reverse syncro going out.

Replace the first gear synchro if all other adjustments fail. Redbeard has a good webpage on it and its easy to do.
