Okay so this probably won't affect a 914, but if someone else you know has a car with a remote lock opener, the kind that you have your car key on, has locked them in there car. They can have someone who has access to the second or spare opener, help them open there car doors by using there cell phone.
You lock your keys in the car, you use your cell phone to call home, you ask them to find the spare car door opener, the person at the car holds there cell phone up to the car, the person at home with the spare opener pushes the button while aimed at there cell phone and the car door opens. Try it. CCLINHELPICANTGETOUT |

I always thought this was a myth... but if it's true, how's it work?
I'm guessing the phones amplify and carry the remote's signal? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif) |

Opening a door with a cell phone does work. First call the person with the second key and that person just needs to move within 3-5 meters of the car and the door will open. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) JK.
Seriously, I suspect the remote uses frequencies outside the range of human ears which is why you don't hear the remote tones when you press the buttons. Also for efficiency, the phone network only transmits frequencies between 200 and 4KHz (8192 bits per second per phone connection) thats why voices and music don't sound right over phone connections. This is a really old (well, old in internet terms) urban myth. I love it when it crops up on the various car boards, though. There are always a couple people that try it.
On the NASIOC (the big subaru board) about 2 years ago, there was some kid that argued that it worked for several posts - though he may have been trolling. I believe there is a Snopes.com artical on this one. Zach |

Since most remotes work with infrared (rather than radio, like your garge door opener) I think you have to use a picture phone. Really

This does work, but you have to make the necessary preparations for it to be reliable. It works best if both people have slept the previous night on a magnetic mattress with the poles in the correct orientation and their bed alligned with the earth's magnetic field. This will allign your body with the universe. Otherwise your body will produce a natural phase-cancelling magntic field that will disrupt the surface tension of the phone's side-band signal that your remote's signal piggy-backs on. Occasionally EMF from powerlines, computer monitors, etc. will de-gauss my personal field so I carry a cow-magnet with me that I can run over my body to touch-up my field allignment. It's easy to monitor this with the signal strength indicator on my phone or by running towards an assistant holding witching-rods.

[QUOTE]I carry a cow-magnet with me that I can run over my body to touch-up my field allignment. I've heard of that, didn't you leave out the part where you have to run around the car, 13 times to get the 2 field alignment's in sinc, (the car and you) And what do you do about always being stampeded by the female cows, those cow magnets really work. That's only true if your car is water-cooled. Aircooled cars are not influenced by the 'tidal effect'. -Ben M. |
