So I was out in the garage over the weekend getting to know
the new tenant. I decided to vacuum and dust a bit. I slid the driver's seat forward and there was a little bit of carpet for an extremely small back seat passenger. "Nice touch" I thought and went about my business. I got over to the other side and pulled the cushion from the fixed seat and there was another bit of carpet. See the attached photo. The lower bit is the "passenger" carpet from behind the driver's seat. the upper bit is the other mystery carpet. Is it perhaps from behind the passenger seat on a later 914, the kind with the movable seat? Thx, Skip Montanaro Attached thumbnail(s) ![]() |

My 1974 2.0 came from the factory with those two little pieces of carpet to cover the "floor" when the seats were moved forward for really short people like my wife. So the carpet pieces are original for some years.

You must be new the the 914 community. So welcome to the cult. These type of small carpet piece were in all 914's. They differed in shape and material over the years but they covered the floorboard area behind the seats. The one in the top of your picture is for an early 914 passenger side and the one in the bottom of your picture was for an early 914 drivers side. The drivers side is cut differently to accomodate the emergency brake cable area where it goes into the firewall.

Even in the early models like mine with the fixed passenger seat? And yes, I am new here, though I did own a '73 I bought new in college. That was my first Porsche. Led to a string of others before the obligations of a growing family hit a few years later. |
