Has anyone ever tried to make flares like these, and how would you do it? More art than functional, but I like them.

not too sure, but they sure seems like a good way to screw up the car and not gain a single thing in doing so...completely useless flare
could just be bent and formed or they welded new material from something else... |

I think these flares could accomodate 225's.
I like them better than GT flares. GTeener has some similar...SC flares I think. I would do it. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/clap.gif) KT |

I like them, but I like the more organic and soft flares more.

Seen those flares in one of my coffee table Porsche books - pretty sure it's one of the two factory -8's. Don't recall what rubber is underneath.

that is what my point was...you add the lip and your gain is so little that you have to pull the fenders out...of course I think aAron needs the room for wider tires and rims for auto-x duty.... |

My method for determining/doing flares.......this may seem a bit involved, but here it is.
Get one each tire/wheel combo of the size you intend to run.(or may run in the future) Set the camber you intend to run. Set the ride height. Have at it with hammers & stuff Cycle the suspension with tire & wheel attached to max compression.....& lock if in front. Add spacers to clear inner fenders. (your negative camber increases as the suspension compresses). Have at with hammers for more clearance (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/headbang.gif) Then smooth & add bondo......unless you're John Kelly (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) This is not a job you wanna do twice....trust me. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif) A fine point: Wide wheels are actually easier to get clearance as a wide tire doesn't bulge inward/outward past the wheel....What you see with the wheel is what you get so you can use just the wheel for checking as you beat the crap outta your fender. You also get a nice verticle tire side wall. |
