I am trying to figure out the teeners in my general area, I like the members map, but not everyone is using it. I believe it would be an easy thing to add the ability to search by region or area. What do you think?

This was discussed once before. The problem is that the registration process does not require city and state, and that is not going to change. Many people don't list their location at all, and others say "third rock from the sun" or "outer space" or whatever.
Brad spoke up and asked people to give their location when they register, but the effort was not successful, and that was that. We are lucky, though.. there is a huge contingent of 914 enthusiasts in this area.

As far as searching a region or general area, it would be helpful if "state" was required, but it is not, and it's too late to change things now. People like being creative and expressing their individuality.. especially them dang people in Oregon! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif)

When I was trying to put together a listing for Arizona, I contacted Sir Andy and he was able to supply me with a good list of names from the state. Some were active on the board, but most had only signed up and posted once or twice. Also check with your local PCA chapter. If you are a member look at the membership directory as it will often list the car(s) a member has. I have found that there are a lot more 914 owners in Arizona than are involved with this board.

I printed up a business card (art available by doing a search) that I give out to 914 owners at PCA events, races, and car shows. It has the web address for the club and encourages their participation. It seems to be working as more and more PCA types are getting involved in the Arizona 914 breakfasts and drives.

In the Arizona Region of PCA, three of the four officers own 914s, as well as one of the board members. Half a dozen 914s show up for the PCA autocross events (and do very well) and even more come out for DE events. In Arizona at least we are accepted as RPOs (Real Porsche Owners).

sorting by location is difficult because that field is "freetext", meaning everybody can put in just about anything they want.

searching (and sorting) is therefore a tedious manual process ...

Good discussion,

I would like to suggest a couple of options.
1) add a new field for region or
2) use existing state field

Implementation:
1) could be implemented by putting news alert on web site to update profile to particapte to support search function
2) allow folks to opt out and simply put disclaimer on search return "does not inlcude folks that opt out"

IMO the map was the easiest way to do it. Pick your spot, zoom in, and find the kids in your neighborhood. Then click on a balloon for member details.

it simply takes the center of your zip area and puts the marker there ...

so unless you happen to live exactly in the center ...

the map is just to give people an idea who lives in what region, not to find someones *exact* location down to the house # ...

Once you are in, you can move your little sperm guy to be right on your house. Not that that's a great idea....
