Someone threw a VW rabbit body onto a 928 "Frame" back in the early 80's. Anything can be done. I say go for it! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif)

John is a club member who sells them for $40 so I can't copy it. Since you are offering me your lid, I'll send you mine and buy another. Sound fair? PM me your address. |

Great, I can use the help. Do they drink Caronas north of the raritan river. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beer.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beerchug.gif) I'll buy. To all, I am looking for a set of black housing headlights from a "91" 300 ZX. see Photo. I want to use them in place of the hide away lights. What do you think? good idea (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/screwy.gif) How do I get the photos to work? |

sounds like an "interesting" project....if I understand the problem the other guys are having using the stock Boxster suspension, you're version is going to run into the same problems and unless you get really creative with the qtr panels its' going to look a little goofy with the top of the struts poking out thru the body work (the lids).......
before you start, I'd measure from the ground a lowered Boxster to the top of the struts and see where that mearsuement ends up on a 914...... Currently on a bone stock 914 with tall tires and not lowered, the top of the rear struts is ~32.14" off the ground......the top of the front strut is ~31.36" off the ground (if I did the math correctly, hahaha) I recommended to the other guys that they run shortened struts with shorter springs...it's doable, just more money to spend and something to think about.... |

Your correct, if I worked the install of the fenders from rocker panels up. But I plan to work from the highest point down. Then I will make a horizontal cut on each side of the wheel wells of the 914 quarters. Then I would move those pieses to the lowest point and fill in the centers. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ar15.gif) Before I install the Flares I will pitch the tops 1/2 the distance of the fill on the quarters. in other words, if the filler on the fenders is 2" I would put a 1" pitch on the flares and a 1" horizontal filler. That should keep every thing proportional and it won't look like a streatched 914 GT. I hope. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif) |

One day I would like to track down the 914 that Bob Farnham built (Beach Boy's Racing) with the 300Z headlights and 928 rear clip. It was powered by a 3.0 6cyl.

Powertech in Rockaway has a customers car which they put a 3.2 aircooled into a 914. It is a mismatch in engine bellhousing/trans sizes (I forgot the combination, but I think it's 3.2 aircooled with a Boxster trans) A massive amount of work. I am told the car absolutely hauls ass.

You know, I just had the craziest idea I've had in the last 3 hours. There were two of those Rabbits. They are featured in one of my coffee-table books. The way they got the engines in was to widen the entire car by a few inches. .... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/idea.gif) Hmmm......What if you stripped a tub (including steering rack and windshield) and plasma-cut the thing right down the center, added 4" of filler and welded it all back up again. To get it back together you'd need:
This would be even easier if you were doing a track only car with a Ginther windscreen because you'd just chop off the A-pillars & not worry about the windshield. -Ben M. |
