Hello! I'm a newbie, but have been reading the board for months. I purchased a beautifully restored 914-6 about 4 months ago. Gorgeous car, fantastic drive (needs 2nd gear syncho). 2 weeks ago, my youngest son was home from college when a woman pulled out in front of him. In avoiding her and child, he got to experience snap oversteer. He is Bondurant trained. The result is in the pictures below. I would like to save the car '71-6 w/ m471. I have no restoration skills. I need advice an two points. First, is it reasonable to consider fixing it? Cost will have some bearing. Second, if yes, then any experience/recs near Nashville?

I wish I could help. Perry is the only 914 guy I know of in the area. Good Luck!

Also you might want to call David Bloodworth @ Bloodworth Motorsports and see who he recomends. He is a pretty nice guy. Here is his contact info:

Bloodworth Motorsports
510 27th Ave N
Nashville, TN 37209

(615) 321-3337

Other than that look up the current PCA (Musikstadt) region officers and give them a call too.

Many thanks to everyone. The car went backwards of the road and into a dry creek bed. Every body panel has some damage. I appreciate the advice and recs.

Hello Sir,

I am sorry to see what has happened to one of the most beautiful, and rarest 914-6 cars I have ever seen. I have provided two links here to a shop in Mass, Precision Automotive Restorations , Marc Allin is the owner. I realize that is not that close to you, but this car is worthy of repair. Marc may also have advice on the repair. Best of Luck to you in whatever you decide with your 914-6.

So sorry to see your gourgous car messed up, sort of makes your stomack just lock up looking at it. Makes my damaged door like not much compared to what happened to yours.

When they fixed my door, they used some new procedure called "metal finishing", at least that's what they called it, anyway, they were able to fix the door without using any bondo, took longer and cost a couple of hundred more than the push it out and bondo it. The 6 is black and there are no ripples in the door after the repairs. Who ever did it at the shop I took it too is definetly a artist with metal.

Yes your car is worth saving, the 6's are getting rare and with the factory options you have, even rarer.

Good Luck, Don

That's a very nice car. And it can be fixed. It should be fixed. Expecially if it's a factory M471.

Stoddard Porsche up in Willoby Ohio usta advertise having a Cellet straightener and had pics of a 914 being straightened.

They usta make a lot of Porsche's 356 sheet metal parts in their shop. Had some deal with the factory and had the blueprints to work from.

Pics usta show 906's and 904's in their showroom as examples of resto work.

The current plan is to fix it, if I can. I miss going down to the garage just to look at it. I t was a fantastic drive, so much more connected to the road than current cars.

IF you decide not to rebuild it, buy the wreck from the insurance company, and post the car here.

I for one would be interested, and I'm sure there are about a hundred others that would be as well.

I wrecked one worse than that (a lot worse), and it was repaired. I did a lot of the work, but had the chassis pulled and some structural metal repaced (firewall back) at a shop with a chassis puller.

If you have it pulled, ask them if you can come in and watch on the day they pull it. AMAZING!!!

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/agree.gif) an original 6 is a must retore, if possible, if it's a true m471, it would be a crime to not fix it! gorgeous car...

Suggest you check with George Hussey at Automobile Atlanta, No telling what kind of parts he may have for that body style, I think he has a couple.

Dad, you are so kind.

I totaled my Dad's car (our current track car) WAY WAY worse than that one and it is still my favorite car to drive. Thanks to a man who knew how to properly use his frame straightening equipment.

DrMike,

You can have it fixed properly and it can look for the most part exactly like it did. It definately was and can be again a very beautiful car. Patience will be required as this repair will take a considerable amount of time to complete.

I wish you the best of luck.
