do i need to get an original 914-6 relay board to put a six in, or can i use a stock 914-4 one?? Would it make it easier with a 914-6 relay board?? one more question, what all plugs into the 914-6 relay board?? anything different from a 914-4 board? Thanks

Just put in a fuel pump relay and fuse somewhere else, and run the rest of the wiring yourself. The rest of the relay board is useless to you, unless you have a rear window defroster, in which case you'd need a second relay for that. If the Six engine you use has an alternator with an external regulator, just mount it to the firewall, near the CDI you'll also run, or swap to an internally regulated alternator.

I used a 6 relay boardand had to modify my wire harness. If you do decide to use a 6 relay board let me know and I will e-mail you the wire harness mod I used. Also my car is a 75.

i wasn't aware that i had to use the original CDI... i sold that months ago while parting out my 911. What purpose does the CDI serve? Kind of a stupid question... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/unsure.gif)

You don't have to use the original CDI, and MSD will do. Most people who run a 911 engine with carbs use a CDI, probably because the Webers usually run rich enough that plug fouling can be a problem.

CDI = Capacitive Discharge Ignition it supposed to increase the voltage going to the coil and some offer multispark up to 3,000 rpm or so. You can get a Mallory or other brand CDI which will be new and less expenisive (normally) than the factory CDI Here is a pretty good website on the different ignition systems out there: Ignitions |

If you are going to run the 4 cyl relay board note that it uses a 12 pin receiver from the T4 engine. The 911 (or 9146) engine cable will have 14 pins on its end.
Just snap the top off of each respective cable end, wire all of your necessary 911 pins into the 12 pin receiver, re-snap the top and plug into the oe relay board. There are actually only several wires that you will be utilizing anyway--depending if it's CIS, motronic, or carb'd. Marty |

My conversion is (barely) using the -4 relay board as well. As a "one of these days" projects I'd like to eliminate it.
