So I had a nice vacation over Christmas, came home, and started working on Babydoll again. I have already replaced 3 out of 4 injectors (no thanks to the garage that "tested" them and told me that all 4 were good... I think they busted 3 of them (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ar15.gif) ). All 4 injectors "buzz" when I bump the throttle with the ignition on, and I have even removed both pairs and verified that they are squirting gas. So fuel delivery doesn't seem to be a problem.

I decided to concentrate next on spark. The guy who built the engine used platinum plugs. I pulled each plug and grounded it and observed spark at each one. Now, I think that the spark may be weak. I replaced all 4 plugs with copper plugs, gapped them at .028, and got the same results. The spark is barely visible and I can't actually hear it. (Again, this is with the plug removed from the head.)

So then I bought an adjustable spark tester. I set the electrodes 8-9mm apart (kinda hard to measure since they are encased in a plastic tube) and connected the coil wire to one end and grounded the other end. With this tester connected to the coil, I can see a spark jump across the gap, but this spark occurs rather infrequently. I have to wonder whether the coil is flaky.

I have also removed the distributor cap and rotor and made sure that the inside of the dizzy is clean and dry. The plugs are brand new. The injectors are all firing. The ignition points are moving as the dizzy rotates. But the best I can do is to get the #1 cylinder to fire. I don't think it's a mechanical problem, since the engine started and ran fine when the car arrived at my house (the project started out as a clutch replacement). Oh yeah, it fires up really nice for a second or two when I use starting fluid.

Any help in getting Babydoll up and running would be GREATLY appreciated. I have really good beer in the fridge for any Mid-Atlantic 914 guys who want to come over. Babydoll really wants to go home to her mommy.
