okay, i have some material

made of hard rubber,
its shaped like a u and
it can be crimped over the edge of a piece of steel.
Its black and about 1/4 x 1/2 x feet.

what the heck do they call that stuff and where can I get more?

Some places call it "Trim-Loc"

Look for it at boating supply stores. Comes in white, gray, black.
