My friend has a 1980 Vanagon 2.0L engine for sell. Does it work in 914?
He told me that I did not have to adjust the valve if I use that engine. Is that true. He said it has 120 Horse power but I double it.... Thanks, |

As Ron (Slits) says: 67HP, so He's doubled it. You would be better off with the 1.7 engine. |

Those are good parts engines.. Crank, rods and cylinders are the same as a 914 2.0 engine. In a pinch the heads will do. The pistons are what kill ya, as they are extremely dished. They'd be great for a turbo though.

Don't the heads have square exhaust ports? I have a set in my garage. Won't bolt up to a 914 exhaust.... |

Oh yeah, I'm thinking of the 2.0 "bus" engine that has heads similar to the 914 1.8 heads.. The "vanagon" heads have square ports. Not sure what year that changed. I think the "bus" engine still has solid lifters too, but I'm not sure. The "vanagon" engine has hydraulic lifters that don't need adjusting (but they have their own problems). |
