Hi all..
I need the MPS/Djet experts again. I had let this sleeping dog lie for a year, but I'm trying to resurect it again now.... So.. lots of questions, and I think I need an ECU but I've been diligently testing and reading my print out from the Brad Anders site..... What is the 051 MPS from? my mps tests good but has these numbers on it: (bosche stamped) 0 280 100 041 (VW stamped) 022 906 051 E my ECU is rusty and has no numbers left on it, no way to tell what it actually is. the motor is clearly a 75 2.0 brad's site doesn't go into much 1975-6 stuff and as far as I could see makes no mention of the 051 MPS is this a squareback, bus mps? and more importantly what # of ECU do I need to buy to make my stupid #@$%@ car run with the MPS I have? brant |

The only VWs that used D-Jet were the Type 3 and the Type 4. The Type 4 obviously used it on the same engine (well, a 1.7). The Type 3 basically uses a 1600 Type 1 engine with a different cooling system.
Correct 2.0 MPSes show up on Ebay from time to time. There's always Megasquirt... |

You can also pick up a 1.7L MPS (more common?) and have it recalibrated by one of the guys here that offers that service.
Brad Anders actually told me that I could run a 1.7MPS on my 2L because the calibration is almost the same. Others here told me the opposite so I never resolved that question. |

Ben,
there are two stamped symbols with 2 numbers. Its in my first post. the bosche number (with a clear bosche symbol beside it) is: 0 280 100 041 I don't think anyone understood my question. my MPS tests GOOD my ECU is bad. so if I was going to buy another ECU which one (part number) is compatable with the 041MPS? my ecu is rusty and has no reminant of a part number left on it. I did not see the 041 mps on the brad anders list, so obviously brad's website didn't tell me which ECU was compatable with my good MPS. so see this is really a 2.0/ECU question. brant |

IIRC
There is a special ECU for the 73, but the rest of the years appear to be the same. Ask Bowlsby, or Bleyseng. You MPS is the right one....041 Are you sure the ECU is bad... Put it all together and see before you replace anything. The only hard part to replace is the head temp sensor...so get a new one and put it in before you put the motor back in. Then hook it all up. An 041 isn't a 914 MPS. I'd send it to Bolwsby or Bleyseng and see if it can be calibrated to the proper specs. |

Yes. If got three of them swimming around in a tank here. But if you read the proper literature, they're only good for spoken word. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) |

Stratplayer,
is your 16X ECU for sale? I could go that route and then recalibrate my mystery MPS I suppose. at least that way I'd have a known correct 75 unit. I'll PM you. Rich, where did you find the MPS listing of 041? I must have missed it on Brad's website. I saw listings for type: 037,043, and 049 but not the 041 perhaps I missed it on the website This is a reprint from Brad's site that has me worried that perhaps all ECU's will not work: ECU / MPS Compatibility Table (CU11X) works with 043 (CU13X) works with 043 (CU14X) works with 049 (CU16X) works with 049 Anthony... sounds like you didn't see it on Brad's site either. have you ever heard of an 041 mps? 2 other guys local to me have MPS's in their spare stash with the same number as me..... If its not 914, then what do you think it is and what ECU could I put with it. I could send out my MPS and have it recalibrated, but I still am going to have to buy an ECU still. It would be cheaper I think to just buy 1 component rather than 2. (Jeff or anyone, what is calibration costing these days?) Britt, thats nice of you man... but since I have an MPS that already tests good, I'm covered. The story in full if anyone has bothered to read along this deep: I bought a motor that was not running, but with decent compression. Seller said "it starts if you pour gasoline, but won't keep running and has some kind of fuel injection issue" Its a 1975 2.0 by the way. So as I'm cleaning It up I test all components of the DJet and they test good. I install it and it won't start. I have run compression and done the valves. I retest components and they are still good (ie: CHT, MPS). I have spark on all 4 cylinders. I pull the injectors and verified that I have good spray patterns on all 4 injectors. All hoses (fuel and vacuum) are new. I verify the motor harness and its good too. So I decided to test the wiring harness for the Djet. I run all of the tests listed for all 23 fuel injection wires. They all Test good The ECU is rusty and has no part number on it remember. I take my old ECU from my old 72 1.7 and plug it into the 25pin wiring harness. Car starts up first crank. I remove the 72 ECU and reinstall the mystery ECU. Car will not even hit. So I'm pretty sure I need to buy an ECU. Its a 75 2,0 I don't know what the 041 MPS needs for an ECU I'm afraid to use the 72 1.7Liter ECU I suppose I could use an MPS that is also for a 1.7 and matches my working ECU, but wouldn't that be lean for a 2.0 motor? Since I've found out there are 3 MPS's in my local area with the same part number, they must be common to something? anyone know? The bottom line: If anybody out there has an 041 on their car, which MPS are those people using. thanks all. |
