So how did y'all do your throttle linkage on a conversion car? I have and installed the bell crank on the tranny that a very well respected guy sells, but given that my car is track-only and i care very little about originality at this point, has anyone gone a more direct route with their installation? I do not like the way it routes through a bell crank, then a pivot, then to the throttle bar. Anyone have pics of other approaches?

Would love to see some examples to mull over.

I can show you what I do on 3.2 conversions, but I'll have to wait until I get home tonight.

I use a stock 914-4 cable and barrel nut, the 911 engine mounted crank arm and a linkage between the two. Works perfectly and gets rid of all that "stock 914-6" contraption.

Thanks John - looking forward to the pictures. This motor is a 2.5 with webbers.

BTW - the block off plates went right on and fit like a glove. Appreciate the great service.

I'm glad they worked out for you.

I found a pic here at work of our very dirty track car linkage on the 3.2.

I reused the pivot shaft and arm from the stock mounted crank arm and reconfigured the other end for use with the 914/4 cable.

I could get a better pic tonight, but this should give you the idea of what I did.

Now we are getting somewhere! I do have the -6 cable that came with my linkage kit, and it seems to waste the whole bell crank now that i have installed it and all, but it is really quite silly to run the line all the way back there just to run it through a pivot back forward to another pivot off the manifolds.

Anyone have pictures from an early motor with Webbers?

Geez, I forgot about this thread. I'll post another pic (of my current linkage) tonight. I made my brackets from stainless this time instead of aluminum.

Unfortunately it is also a 3.2 and not carbs. I'm sure if I had an engine with the carbs I could build a simple linkage for it without all that belcrank crapola.

Send me a pair of junk carbs that I can bolt up to my mock-up engine, and the linkage and I'll make a throttle cable linkage for it (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)

I had that same 3.2 fuel injection bell crank for a while.
I was going to try and use it on a carbed motor.
turned out to be way too much trouble.

even though you don't like the stock type bellcrank, its less headache to use a proven system and that why I did it...

I even modified mine to use a stock -4 cable.

alot of conversions have avoided the stock type bellcrank, but have repeatedly had issues with not getting enough leverage and range of motion to fully open the carbs to maximum.

some say they licked it....
others not...

the only advice I can give you is to pay special attention that you are getting full range of motion on your butterflies if you proceed with a different approach.

Thanks guys - appreciate it. Brant, did licking them help that much? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif)

Going to continue to try adjusting it. Right now the linkage piece that goes from the bell crank to the manifold pivot is not really providing the full range of motion and binds a little. Will try working out the kinks tonight.

This is a custom one off (well now a 2 off because I made a second one). I designed and only built one of them. There is no way in hell you have had it. There used to be only the one, now there are 2 and I am in posession of both of them.

I designed the original (shown in the pic) for my dad's car 14 or so years ago.

ha...

you guys crack me up..
good thing there is no licking smiley...
I just meant that some say they have solved all of the binding and range of motion problems... others not.

John... I didn't mean exactly the same as your custom one off... What I meant was that I had the stock original 3.2 F.I. bellcrank along with the mount that it comes on.

I bought one used to look at making a linkage more like yours apparently (I didn't know you used one like this, but I guess great minds think alike)

In the end I choose a different approach and sold my used mount piece and bellcrank to some 911 guy for 15bucks or something...

I'm guessing from the looks of yours it is based off of this stock part ... no?????

Sure, we gots those.
The reason I used the stock set up is because it works. The routing is there and all the parts were available....or you can call me silly.
You want upper or lower?
