I was replacing the o-ring in the back of the transmission where the speedo drive goes. And when I went to put the bolt in the very back of the tranny that holds the angle drive unit in the helicoil back out of the case. One, is the helicoil factory? I think I remember reading hear that all the transnmissions had them. Two, Whats the best method to repair this? Does any one know the exact helicoil size? Other than this I had a pretty productive day though. i replaced the rear sway bar drop link bushings, repalced the angle drive o-ring and the rubber peddle cluster covers. Thanks for any information regarding my actual question.

Put it back in.
Make a tool from a long bolt....2 lock nuts against each other
on the bolt, with the appropraite length of thread showing.
Thread the helicoil onto the bolt. Red locktight on the female
threads (well cleaned) and run that sucker back in there.
I've done this a few times on different fasteners. No probs yet.

Unfortunatley dad destroyed the helicoil while he was foolin around trying to pt it back in. So I guess the only question i really have is what is the size of the helicoil? and should I locktite the new one in there too?

Take the bolt that came out of there to your local bolt store.
Have em' match it up with a helicoil.
