No going back now...after first of holes was drilled.
15 1.5" holes in a 7"x10" space.

Dan,

How about installing three louvered panels in the trunk. Someone around here must still make them.

The cooler sits over one and the other two are for inlet.

Nice and close, no issues with pumping oil a long way.

Rules and class issues, don't know.


Edit...Opps, I thought this was the older post.

I like your installation.. it is super clean.

How are you going to hold the cooler off the floor?

Air I assume will come in via the little front holes.

Randal, I am going to run one bolt thru the aluminum shroud into the existing mounting location for the spare tire...at the rear I am going to run 2 3.5" bolts through the floor and into the corresponding existing bolts on the shroud. Will be attached in 3 places with sturdy bolts (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif)

Just finished rewiring my (now useless) foglight switch to work as the power switch for my cooler fan. Switch now works when the ignition switch is on...no need for headlights to be on for it to have power any longer....thanks Demick. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif)

And yes, I removed 5 of the plastic plugs in the front bulkhead and drilled corresponding holes in my LE valance. should provide plenty of air to the cooler.
That 1600CFM fan moves a lot of air all by itself (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) That coupled with the 25 row oil cooler and my little 4 banger should be running plenty cool...even at BW or TH in July or August.

I used a lowly 1.5" hole saw on my Makita cordless. I made a grid up on my computer and then transferred it to the trunk floor. Center punched each mark and then drilled and drilled and drilled. Actually didn't take that long. Maybe 15-20 mins from start of grid transfer to final hole completion.
Today I will gather the hardware I need to attach the fan and cooler to the floor. I will also check to see what kind of premade window or door seal I can come up with to seal the interface of the cooler to the trunk floor. There is a lot of topograpy to attempt to seal on the trunk floor.
Yes a nice fan like that would be great in the passengers compartment at BW or TH in the summer. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)

That installation is going to be pretty slick Dan.

Back to BW, Bontempi told me about a trick of his that works well.

Keep a t-shirt submerged in cold ice water until your ready to go out on the track.

Put it on under your driving suit and you are good for the next session.

Putting the t-shirt on of couse is a bit of a shock, but after 5 minutes on grid you'll be a happy and cool camper.

On the other hand you can spend big $$$ for one of those mechanical cool shirts!

yea, between you and Randal....so my car is either a hover craft or a low budget Chapparral...or maybe that is the same thing??

Actually you can blame Randal for the cooler, fan and shroud. I bought it from him in it's current configuration.

Just seemed like the most straight forward solution to me. Only using parts I already had and not having to do a bunch of fabricating. If venting through the floor was good enough for the factory 914-6 GTs then I guess my solution is along those lines.
I am going to be using my spare tire cover to seal the bottom of the trunk.
I will be placing seals around the periphery to completely close off that area of the trunk. I will then fab up some latches to hold it in place. Lower space of the trunk will become nothing but air in the front and air out the bottom. I will also still be able to use a portion of the trunk to haul items to the track.
