Sorry.. I ment just the cable pull method..

I have read it is hard to get 100% throttle position with this method (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/unsure.gif)

I am looking at redoing my linkage do to the stiff pedal.

Has anyone removed a spring off one side (one carb) to improve the movment?

Dropping $300+ is not an option right now. Need to get a house and the clamp has been placed by the boss (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/dry.gif)

The bracket from PParts is NLA. I would like to use the -4 cable if possible.

Thanks

My car also uses a -4 standard throttle cable.

I had to re-design the bell crank at the engine end several times until I got it to give me a full open throttle.

Granted the engine is a 3.6, but I reasoned that if it ever broke, that I could get a replacement cable cheap, and off the shelf.I didn't want a Rube Goldberg mechanism either, that may leave me stranded on the side of the road a couple of hundred miles from home.

That is the same reason I want to use the -4 cable. I plan on having a spare -4 clutch and throttle cable in my club tool bag (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif)

There just has to be a better method then the Porsche method from '70 (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/dry.gif) . I think I will pickup some weber linkage parts at Hershey and try to get a better throttle action worked out. Kerry and all....

I use a standard 4 cable also.
there is a tiny trick that no one has figured out yet.

If you take the front piece from a stock (trashed) extra -4 cable off, you can modify it to fit on the back of a -6 type ball linkage.

better description: you know in front where the throttle cable hooks onto the trottle rod. Its a ball connection that threads onto the front of a stock cable.

screw this off and have it filled, with a tig
then re tap it and re thread it to screw onto the back of a STOCK -4 cable.

the -4 cable was actually the correct length for my bellcrank and I agree it is certainly more readily available (I carry spares too)

If I ever need to replace a throttle cable at the track, I can simply use a stock -4 cable and screw this little modified part back onto the end of it.

now this modified -4 cable uses the ball type attatchment at both ends. (and you save from having to buy a -6 cable)

My bellcrank arrangement is actually cheap also. Its a 20$ 911 bellcrank that has been re- brazed to change the angle of leverage on the arms. I used an alluminum mount, but have a spare one that I made from steel so the mount is FREE. Its a bolt on, so no need to tap the transmission plate, and if I change trannys' it will easily unbolt from one to the next.

so Yes I have a "Rube Goldberg" linkage...
but its just as structurally sound and just as cheap as any other linkage out there ($20 + my time) and I get to use a stock -4 cable still:
