The stock jack for VW and 914 is sort of cheesy(and I don't have one), I have the little plate with the square bar welded on to use jackpoints with floor jack and thought about keeping a hydraulic bottle jack in the trunk. It would be way cheaper than a stock jack, any thoughts, pro or con?

I bought a little scissor jack that straps in the rear truck... I'm using rubber straps that are at the front of the trunk. I think they are what held the original jack.

Haven't had to use it yet though but it is small enough.

Grab a scissors jack off an older Honda or something. They work great and are nice and small. I use one to jack my car when i don't feel like pulling out a hydraulic or the original one. Or you could always just get the cheesy original kind (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/cool.gif)

A bottle jack should do the job just fine.
For me - - - just getting the job done was not enough. I wanted to do it with style.
I have an aluminum scisor jack from an early 911.
It looks good, is light weight, was made in Germany, plus, it has a Porsche part #.

Thanks Ron.

That's what I did too. I keep it in a heavy duty black
canvas tool bag in the front trunk along with an assortment of necessary tools. Keeps everything in one place and easy to get to.

Well, not everything. I plan to keep a long screwdriver and a 13 mm socket with a long extension, just in case I have a broken cable problem. Thanks for the input y'all

I have a scissors jack that I liberated from our old Nissan before I gave it to my nephew.

It works better than the stock jack, and it is designed to pick up a car by the pinch weld.
