Will do. The car is sitting right where it burned. Heh, it's not going anywhere 'till a flatbed -drags- it away. The scoop so far is that both insurance companies have let slip their dogs of law, and now it's just up to them. The fire investigator said that unless there's criminal intent involved, that there's no need for him to even take a look at the car. I figured that he would at least come out and -look- at it, and -then- say "yep, it's burned up all right..."... -Josh2 |

I dont own a home so I am not sure how home insurance works, but since the home siding was damaged, couldn't a claim be placed with the homeowners insurance, that is if your father has that?

Yup, insurance all around. It's a matter of -whose- insurance pays... And whether my dad has to pay a deductable or not.

I've had two incidence where vehicles started smoldering (not engulfed in flames) on their own.
One happened in my mom's 79 Ford pickup. Hours after going into the house, my sister screamed because the black smoke was pouring out the engine bay. By the time they got the door unlocked and the hood popped, they smoke had died down, but the entire electrical system in the truck was gone! Found out that a piece of tin foil had been used in place of electrial tape for a quick fix by the PO. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/blink.gif) The other happend to my toyota pickup. After it was recoverd (by me!) from being stolen I had it at the shop for some reason. Suddenly one wire by where the stereo was sparked and started to run through the engine compartment! Luckily it was only that one wire, but it sure did put out alot of smoke and panic from me. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif) There must have been a hot wire that grounded somewhere. Sorry about the long story. Point is there could have been an electrical short that caused something to ignite and burn the car to the ground. Of course it could have been Aamco. A strange incident I had with a 73 914 20 years ago. I had been driving a few hours at night, but on heavily travelled routes, so I had not used my high beams. About a mile from home I flick on my high beams and I get a fire under my dash. I stop immediately and park it for the night. Next day I check out the damage, and it was the wire to the high beam indicator. I never did figure out why, but I put a fuse in the wire when I replaced it. Bulb was okay.

Woulda been nice if nothing at all had happened. But a good thing it wasn't last week when everything was dry and the winds were high...

You know Herb's avatar?
I did that to a 1.7 at the junction of 75/85 in Atlanta, during rush hour. Glad everyone is ok, stuff comes easier than family. M |
