I got a set of stocker wheels and was wondering if they can use the chrome moon hub caps. I'm thinking of keeping the empi's that I have to show and the stockers for Go since they don't have clearance issues but I think they would look nice with the moon caps.

I don't have a pic on the computer but I'll take one later today.

Oh and if I wanted moon caps where would I get them?

The only differance between VW hub caps and and 914 hub caps is the stamped "VW" in the center. You may be able to score some on Samba or of course here.

If in moon hubcaps, you are referring to the convex smooth round shape, I have never seen those for stock 4 bolt wheels. The moon style caps are from the old wide 5 bolt wheel pattern from Porsche/VW. They also attach to the wheel differently. The 5 bolt moon hubcaps have little metal clips the cap snaps onto. The 4 bolt caps snap onto little nubs that are part of the wheel itself.

For the newer stock 4 bolt wheels you can only get the nipple style caps with the nipple either blank (stock porsche) or with VW stamped into them.
Or after market with the porsche crest or vw crest on them.
I think you can also get a cap similar to the nipples without the nipples, just kind of a flat (pie tin) style. but that is not what I would consider a moon style. either.

Aftermarket nipple caps with Wolfsburg crest emblem. The emblems click because the speed clips holding them on SUCK.

Stock 914 caps. These are bug offset wheels though. I think the stock 914 wheels have offset more towards the inner wheel well. Gonna check on that in the next few weeks.

'nother shot of stock caps. As mentioned by Dan previously, the VW caps have VW stamped into the steel in the center raised portion of the cap. The 914 stock caps do not as illustrated here.

Ok so will the stockers hold any cap? I was thinking of painting the wheel black and having the Chrome cap. The stockers I have seem to have 4 little holes that might be the mounts.

I found a pic on another thread of the stock wheel I have but can't remember how to link to the pic.

Any more pics of the hubcap mounting?

place your mouse over the picture, left click, hit properties, highlight the "address", copy, hit the "IMG" button and paste the link...it should work as long as the the picture website allows hotlinking....

there are I think 2 different "stock" steel rims....early and late style I believe....

4 lug VW wheels in 15x5.5, 7 and 8 can be had at www.jbugs.com as well as hubcaps in all styles.....they don't sell them with Porsche crests just EMPIs but those can be had at www.nlaparts.com

oh, and those 7 and 8's will not fit under stock fenders....you can get the 5.5 rims widened to 7's with the proper offset....about $75 per wheel for that operation (check out Stockton Wheel for that)

The crests do click, so I used 30 min epoxy on the inside of hubcap
over fasteners. Shut them right up.
