I'm looking for a place to mount the brain of my LC-1 WBO2. Since the cable is only about 2.5 feet long I'm forced to put the unit under the tin. I'm sure its built for underhood temperatures since that the only place it can go.

Where did you guys mount yours?

Thanks

BTW - my megasquirt build is coming along nicely. I'm running wires, almost finished with the fuel side of things. So far so good. i'll post pics over the weekend.

bump.. and a bunch of questions.

1) where did you end up installing the actual O2 sensor?
(in the collector after the 4 became 2 or just into 1 bank?

2) when you say under the tin, do you mean the motor tin?

3) do you think the entire unit will be long enough to reach the dash? I measured 12 foot, but thought I would buy a longer MTS cable if I had too.

4) my bung is pretty much after the header (very far back) so I was thinking about mounting the cable to the bottom of the rear trunk.. and then routing forward.. describe what you intend to do?

thought of another question...

are you running your cable straight into MS, or an XD guage, or a Meter? and where are you mounting what ever it is that you run the cable into?

and then his MS is mounted in the rear trunk too....
that makes sense....

dang.. I'm running my LC into an XD that I want to mount on my dash... I need a lot more lenght.. dang.

His MS is mounted in the engine bay right now, not the rear trunk. The LC-1 controller is all the way back by the taillights.

Mike,

this is encouraging.
so you had enough length to get to the passenger compartment!

you must have added wire length for that accomplishment or did the LC cable end make it that far forward?

Hey Brant.....

I have a connector near where the relay board use to be at going into the wiring harness.

Sorry for the delay,i forgot about this thread... hehe.

To answer your questions:

1) I have a 4-2-1 header system with a flowmaster muffler. When i was trying to tune my carbs I had two bungs welded on the single exhaust tubes of the rear two cylinders. But I decided that I'd feel more comfortable reading the entire system, so i had another welded on before the muffler.

2) Yes under the engine tin. The WBO2 sensor cable isn't long enough to let me place it above the engine tin. I'll email Innovative and ask them what the operating temperature range is for this unit.

3) i dont think the entire system is 12 feet. Why place the unit in the dash? The LC-1 has no built in display, buttons or anything. The engine compartment is a good place for the LC-1, my concern was placing it 6" away from the exhaust. You can hard wire a push button and LED that will be used to recalibrate the sensor, but there is no reason to run all that wiring up to the dash. If you want to install a display you can either connect it to the serial port or analog voltage output.

4) I will mount the LC-1 somewhere under the trunk, but not in the trunk, as far away from the exhaust as possible. The cable is only about 2.5 feet long, so I would assume that the engineers that designed this product built it to operate to underhood temperatures.

I'm going to hardwire the LC-1 to a switch and LED, all placed inside a plastic Hammond "custom relay box", along with my MS relay board and a terminal block for grounds. Presently I have no plan to install a Air/Fuel gauge, at all times i plan on having either a cheap laptop or palm pilot connected to monitor stuff. At least for the first few months of driving.

I was browsing around the Innovative site and came across this:

Megasquirt Integration Note

High-impedance inputs, like those found in the current version Megasquirt fuel computer, can create problems with the LC-1 because the input caps act as dynamic shorts. The easiest fix is to add a 470 Ohm resistor in series with the analog output of the LC-1.

http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/resourc...rces/news11.php

Also check this out, posted on msefi.com
http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?p=10781...ight=lc1#107813
"On a V3 main board, the resistors R10, R11, and C10 capacitor form the EGO input circuit (R1, R29, and C2 on a V2.2 main board). C10 is on the processor side of the circuit, and is fine. However, some people are apparently adding capacitors to the sensor side of R10/R11. This causes problems with some wide-band controller boards, including the Innovate LC-1. So don't do it. "

Here is an entire thread on adding a resistor inline with the analog output:
http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?p=10640...ight=lc1#106403
and another.. http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?p=10616...ight=lc1#106165

I just emailed Innovative and asked them what the max operating temp of the LC-1 brain should be limited to.

I submitted my operating temp question to Innovative and received this response:

"We tested the LC-1 to up to 180 degF environmental temp"

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif) not really what i was looking for. you would think they would publish operating environment specifications. this answers is pretty worthless to me.

Ok, i bolted my muffler back on and screwed in the WBO2 sensor. the cable reaches into the engine compartment on the drivers side by about an inch. I'm going to ziptie the LC-1 to the tin with some rubber insulation in between. i'll take pic tomorrow. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) i hope the temp is ok there. i'll stick a temp probe in it once the car is running.... gimme afew days.

I've been running my relay box and Techedge WBO2 unit on the firewall right behind my seat for long time. No problems. Of course the air from the rain tray dumps in right there.

I posted this on the innovative forums:

"Ok so what are the operating specs for this unit? If that data isn't available then what are the components rated to?"

Got this response:
"-25C to +90C"

so -13F to 194F.

That's reasonable. I ended up mounting my LC-1 on the top side of the engine tin near the fuel pressure regulator.
