At the point where the acc cable goes through this mount (see pic) it seems that there should be some kind of nut or lock or something to keep the cable fixed at this point. If so, what should be used.

This way it seems like the cable has too much free play.

From your pict, I suspect that you are running carbs. If so, the bracket is too thick. the cable has a threaded end that a M6x1.0 nut can be installed to capture the cable end. But the bracket you have is too thick to allow the threads to come through.

You might make an insert for the bracket with an internal thread of M6x1.0. Make it a t-shaped insert, and put it on from the other side. That would lock the cable down.

(yes I have carbs) That makes sense, thanks, how would I make the insert piece? or are there any thinner brackets out there?

counter sink the front of the hole so you have enough threads showing on the back to capture the cable with a nut.
