Has anybody explored other options for a transmission for the v8 or even Raby powerhouse croud? What about the net ford GT or Porsche GT or Boxter of Cayman or new corvett. (the new corvet has the tranny in the rear right?)
What about something like this from getrag?

well, you can buy a new transmission right from Ford, however $11,000 (transmission only, is a tad stiff for most people (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif) )

or Porsche GT
I'm sure that'll be like a $40,000 transmission if you can find one

or Boxter or Cayman
been done a few times now

or new corvett. (the new corvet has the tranny in the rear right?)
for the 'vette, its a transmission with the rear diff bolted to the tail end of it......not a true a transaxle....if bolted up to the engine, your axles would be right under the bumper on a 914

see Boxster above, for the Audi specific box, someone is doing it right now as well

Please search. This has been discussed to death, and quite recently, too.
