I have someone looking to buy my two 901 trannys for his project vehicle. He has two different engines he's trying to decide between to use. Both are `67 blocks, one from a Bug and one from a Bus. The question is whether a 901 trans will work with either of these blocks?
Thanks, |

Either one will bolt right on to the transmission. Dimitri

What kind of project vehicle? Just make sure it faces/turns the right direction so you don't have 5 speeds in reverse.

Depends if it a 901 or a 914/12 coded tranny. A 901 with the shifter lever out the back is from a 911/912 which needs a rear engined setup.
A 914/11 or 914/12 is for a mid-engine set up cuz they flipped the diff so you have 5 speeds forwards. The 901 with the rear shifter works best in a bug conversion set up |

Don't know for sure what his project vehicle is but it is rear engine. So he would be taking the parts from the 914 sideshift trans to complete the 911/01 trans and install it in his car. He just didn't know if the 901's and Bug and Bus blocks would be compatible.
Thanks for the info! This will mean a few more dollars for my autocross Roadster project! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/mueba.gif) |
