I scrubbed mine down with some Simple Green and very fine steel wool. After drying I painted with some Grey VHT, don't know how long it will last but it looks nice now.

I used wd40 and steel wool and rubber gloves and a bunch of clean paper towels. They cam clean pretty fast - not as big a task as I expected. Jim

I've heard it is not a good idea to use steel wool on stainless as it can make your stainless rust.

Just what I heard....for what it's worth.

I find that scrubbing or polishing by hand makes my fingers lock in funny positions.... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/blink.gif)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif) Sorry if thi has been double posted. I've had my SSI's since '75. Every 2 or 3 years I clean them (off the car) with SOS, followed by a serious treatment with Simichrome. Leaves them nearly chrome-looking. Have won 2 PCA Parade concours (full) and 32 others with these & w/o a gig for them.
Simichrome leaves them easy to maintain with water & Ivory liquid - on the car.
My 2 cents

They're on the car already. They looked as close to new as it gets.
