OT: My dad's new ride, Porsche powered!

Practicing my perpendicular parking Group: Members Posts: 4,277 Joined: 19-April 03 From: Los Osos, CA Member No.: 587 Region Association: Central California	My dad found this on craigslist. It's a Kelmark GT kit car. It has a 901 5 speed, 911T 2.2 and a full compliment of porsche gauges. The brakes, wiring and fuel line need work, but it has alot of potential. Attached image(s)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/barf.gif) I'm trying to get him to get VW to 5 lug porsche adaptors, because they're much safer. Would require new wheels, but that's probably necessary anyways since tires that fit the rear are probably nearly unavailable now. It's built on a 69 super beetle frame, and has disc in front with some sort of ATE caliper and drums in back. Last pic: Attached image(s)

It's sort of a long distance father-son project. He's going to take care of the details (seats, interior, seals, wheels, tires, barakes) and I'm going to help with/do the porsche side of things.

I was wondering about the super beetle bit (that's what the PO said it was).

Definitely a torsion bar dual trailing arm front. I'm glad it has IRS in the back instead of the awful swing arms. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif)

Great to see a someone got it where we can see the progress. Your photos are much better than what was in the ad. If its a '69 Beetle, definitely a twin trailing arm torsion bar front end.. I drove a '69 into the ground through many years/ many engines.... One thing in its favor.. sure as hell was BUILT ALOT better than a 914!!! Superior fit and finish, and most importantly, DRAINAGE... the only rust spot to look for is under what used to be the rear passenger seat, where the battery is secured. I like how Kelmark copied the Dino Ferrari's nice lines. have fun!

(I still have a new pair of Ferrari-look windshield post mount rear view mirrors if you are interested....send PM) One word of caution...the standard Kelmark kit had zero side impact protection. If it does not have one already and you plan to drive it regularly a full cage would be a wise saftey investment. dave
