My dad found this on craigslist. It's a Kelmark GT kit car. It has a 901 5 speed, 911T 2.2 and a full compliment of porsche gauges. The brakes, wiring and fuel line need work, but it has alot of potential.

It has konis all the way around. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif) It also has VW to chevy adaptors. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/barf.gif)

I'm trying to get him to get VW to 5 lug porsche adaptors, because they're much safer. Would require new wheels, but that's probably necessary anyways since tires that fit the rear are probably nearly unavailable now.

It's built on a 69 super beetle frame, and has disc in front with some sort of ATE caliper and drums in back.

that was posted here last week....guy wanted $2500 for it....was not too happy with people giving him total low ball bids on it and then telling him that they plan on parting it out (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/screwy.gif)

This won't get parted out.. It's sort of a long distance father-son project. He's going to take care of the details (seats, interior, seals, wheels, tires, barakes) and I'm going to help with/do the porsche side of things.

Seller seemed nice, I was going to buy it, but the 1500 mile weekend was just too much on short notice. Glad it went to a good home.

Throw some sand tires on and some skid plates and you'd have an awesome dune buggy! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif)

It's built on a 69 super beetle frame,

Looks like a good project. Just a minor point but the first Superbeetle wasn't until 1971 and had McPherson strut suspension which wouldn't fit under the Kelmark. Most likely it is a torsion bar front end if it is a '69 chassis. Not the best geometry but if it's in good shape is fine for the street.

I like it.

I was wondering about the super beetle bit (that's what the PO said it was).

Definitely a torsion bar dual trailing arm front. I'm glad it has IRS in the back instead of the awful swing arms. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif)

Thanks for clearing that up!

Hey Bondo,

I posted that one here last week. Great to see a someone got it where we can see the progress. Your photos are much better than what was in the ad.

If its a '69 Beetle, definitely a twin trailing arm torsion bar front end.. I drove a '69 into the ground through many years/ many engines....

One thing in its favor.. sure as hell was BUILT ALOT better than a 914!!!

Superior fit and finish, and most importantly, DRAINAGE... the only rust spot to look for is under what used to be the rear passenger seat, where the battery is secured.

I like how Kelmark copied the Dino Ferrari's nice lines.

have fun!

Bondo,
Nice project. I owned a Kelmark with a turbo VW motor. It was a fun toy. (I still have a new pair of Ferrari-look windshield post mount rear view mirrors if you are interested....send PM)

One word of caution...the standard Kelmark kit had zero side impact protection. If it does not have one already and you plan to drive it regularly a full cage would be a wise saftey investment.

That kit reminds me of a 904, I love the look! And the engine note fits the persona as well. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)
