Wow $195K it must cost a ton of money todo a body off resto on a unibody car

Speaking from experience, it sure does! You can't build this car for under 6 figures!

At $195,000 it is a deal relative to other period Porsche racing cars with provenance. Can't touch a 911R for under $300,000. Even totally disassembled!

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/agree.gif) - that's my understanding too

in Europe there were at least 3 original GTs for sale within the last couple of months
they were all fully restored by specialists and they were asking between
EUR 200,000 (~ US$ 235,000) and EUR 250,000 (~ US$ 295,00)

so, to me, the price for the Lufthansa GT seems to be a bargain ... unfortunately I can't afford (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif)

My point was totally tongue in cheek, You cannot do a "body-off" frame restoration on a car where there is no frame (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif)
A better term would have been ground up or complete restoration. I know restos are not cheap todo by any means, I am doing a bucks up GT look conversion right now on an orig 6 and it co$t$ big time. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif)

You crack me up...We need to establish a new term for the most complete restoration on a unibody car...perhaps a complete "parts off" restoration?

IMO, "ground-up" and "complete restoration" don't carry the same weight as "body off"...

BUT, I am no Keith Martin or Craig Jackson!

When I hear "complete restoration" and "ground up"

I figure everything was taken off, redone, new parts in apropriate places, and assembled perfectly..

Thats my take on cars done for museums or high end shows.

Body off to me would say, they separated the body from the chassis and cleaned replaced and painted everything.

Ground up.. would be everything from the ground up is either replaced, redone, or repainted... same as Complete..

Thats my take, and im a hot rodder...

Exactly.... and my point is "Body-off or Frame-off" is an impossibility because the car is unibody and is not attached to any type of frame the unibody is the frame, hence my original joke.

At 5,332 members that works out to $36.57 each and then each of us could have the car for an hour and a half every year.....presumably that hour and a half would be spent driving the car to the next member's house.

Oh wait there's probably tax on that too........ (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/unsure.gif)
